I have tried many things and finally uninstalling both the device and driver seemed to do the trick. I still have my suspicions about iTunes though!

I have a 5352 doing the same thing. Solution that worked:
Uninstall I-Tunes completely.
Using Device Manager, uninstall your cd-rom.
Reboot your PC.
The CD ROM will be recognized and the device will re-install.
The key is to get rid of I-Tunes. It corrupts the CD ROM start from WIN7.
