Acer Aspire 5750-6845 Battery Issue

I have an out-of-warranty Acer Aspire 5750-6845. Sometimes, the battery seems to fall out, or at least fall out of circuit with the laptop, and as such if I don't have it pressed up against something or plugged in, the computer may randomly shut off. Even if I keep it on a stable surface, it occasionally shuts off because nothing is pressing the battery against the computer. It's had this issue for about as long as I've owned it, but it's on-and-off. Sometimes, I can go a few months without having this issue. Other times, it will happen several times a day. The problem also seems to be independent on the temperature of the battery or the computer.

I probably should have redeemed the waranty on the computer when it was covered, but for some reason it never dawned on me to do that. I'm very computer literate; an amateur computer expert (I can fix most issues and take the thing apart and put it back together), so if there is some solution that requires a bit of technical knowledge, I can probably handle it.

For now, to cope with the issue, I've enabled "Hybrid Sleep" on my computer, which saves the session before the laptop goes into sleep mode, in case the power fails in transit. I also plug the computer in when doing any sensitive tasks or anything I would rather not have interrupted. Is there any way to fit the battery more securely against the computer?

Specs:

OS: Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (I should update this now that I notice)

Processor: Intel Core i5-2430M @ 2.40 GHz

RAM: 4.00 GB (3.85 GB useable)

I will concur that it would have been better to have addressed the issue within the warranty period.

When looking at the bottom of the system, do you see the battery lock near the battery?

It should be a sliding switch that is orange in color with a single insertion point.

If this lock is not completely to the lock side, it may be letting the battery slip and come loose.
