ACER Aspire E1-571 touch pad goes crazy

I have Aspire E1-571 running Linux Elemntary OS Luna.  The problem is that after a period of time touchpad will start to mulfuntion rendering any use of laptop impossible or only through keyboard. The mouse will dock on to a given page and will scroll as when using two finger scroll while im only trying to move around, often it will only be able to move the pointer vertially horizontally it is impossible. Turning the mouse on/off with  [FN] +F7 does not help. Only thing that restores it to normal is reset. That problem used to happen after few hours or days of use, now it will often happen within 5-30min of resetting it.

Thanks for help

Re: ACER Aspire E1-571 touch pad goes crazy

The laptop came with Windows 8 originally. I never came to terms with the 8 so had for a while a dual boot of Win 7 with Ubuntu, now it is running on only Elemntary OS and no windows.

Did this issue arise after installing this distro? Do you know if you have the Elan or Synaptics touchpad?

Before that I had just Ubuntu along with Windy 7. I remember few times touchpad was unresponsive although it was maybe twice total rather than daily, but it did occur on Ubuntu rather than Windows.

The touchpad is SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad .

OK, take a look at the answer in this link.

Looks like you're gonna have to edit a config file.
