my laptop kept on switching itself off very randomly .......after a few months of this, I looked on Acer site and saw a newer BIOS update............I stupidly used the windows version instead of DOS...........I now have a laptop/brick.

I have tried the recommended Fn+Esc things which results in a long beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep  until i turn it off again in despair

Any ideas please?

Assuming your USB stick is bootable, the only BIOS file in its root should be named PEW71x64.fd

    Congrats! Jack E/NJ

PS: You might want to check for dust bunnies clogging the cpu and fan. Overheating could cause the intermittent behavior, not the BIOS firmware.
