How to Format Gateway DVD Backup Discs

When trying to create DVD Factory Default Backup Discs on my Gateway EC54 laptop, I get the following message with a DVD+R DVD formatted disc (formatted using the default formatting settings):  "Please insert a blank DVD into the optical drive, then press OK to continue".

If I try to use an unformatted disc, I get the following message:  "unsupported disc format.  Please insert a balank DVD into the optical drive, then press OK to continue".

What type of Disc and formatting do I need to make the back up discs?

If I attempt to upgrade to Windows 10, but the upgrade fails, will the Factory Default Discs allow me to recover the original 64 Bit Windows 7 Home Premium operating system and retain the non-operating system files on that are on the hard drive?

  • The DVD+R disks should work out of the package with no formatting.

If you're making Factory Default disk like this, the disk will restore the hdd to the state it was in from the factory.

It will totally erase and format the drive and anything on the drive will be gone.
