RAM timings in Acer Aspire ES1-131

I recently got a new Acer Aspire ES1-131. It has a 2 GB RAM module installed by Acer, having CL11 (i.e. 11-11-11 timings) in its specs and working as CL11 in this laptop. I am going to upgrade by installing an 8 GB module, and I am thinking of getting a (slight) performance increase by installing a module with CL9 (i.e. 9-9-9 timings).

There is no way to set the latency manually in the BIOS. So, my question is: if I buy a RAM module with CL9 and install it in my Acer Aspire ES1-131, will it start at CL9 (i.e. taking CAS latency from the RAM module's SPD chip), or will it still start at CL11? At the moment, I have no CL9 module at hand to install it temporarily and check. If the latter, then it would make no sense for me to buy a (more expensive) module able to work at CL9.

I asked Acer's reps here in Ukraine, but they said they do not have have this sort of information.
