Hi All,

I have an Acer Aspire E1-572G.

I am trying to load a dual boot to run Ubuntu alongside Windows 7.

I need to disable the Secure boot mode in the BIOS in order to run Ubuntu as I have seen in some forums.

However, when I try to do so, all is greyed out.

I also have to make the boot mode "Legacy" for windows 7 to be able to run.

When I change the boot mode to UEFI I see there are new settings under the security TAB.

The only ones that are not greyed out are "Set Supervisor Password" and "Set HDD Password".

The rest is all greyed out and I need to disable Secure Boot Mode.

Please assist ASAP as I have spent almost 30 hours straight trying to get the OS installed.

    Hi,

So I finally found a way. once you set the Supervisor password you are able to "clear all secure boot settings".

Once I dit this, I was able to boot from the Linux DVD

I still had an issue where Ubuntu could not creae temp files on my hardrive, so I went with Kali.

I have tried as well and dual boot just won't work without disabling secure boot. I don't know myself why Acer doesn't let us disable secure boot.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

Is there a way around this by maybe flashing the BIOS?

If you know the master password, this is the only way to unlock all features.

    Hi,

I might have found a BIOS Password Genrator. Do I then Type this into the Supervisor password field?

Currently it shows clear, so there is no password set.

It is not the supervisor password. I think there should be another password set by Acer to unlock all settings.
