Take your own time to do those steps.
Normally the removal of SP won't prevent any program from running. It will only effect Microsoft programs.
Do not rush up when you get time do those steps. Do not worry about our post it will be always there so take your own time to reply or post the result no hurries. I will also keep you posted if there is any other way we could solve the issue.
You too have a happy week end enjoy.

Ok, I found the service pack install (I think).
I did a lot of updating on March 8th, so the list is long, but, in screen shot below, this is the only 'service pack' update listed for that day.
Before I uninstall it (always fearful I'll kill my computer), I wanted to post this to make sure I'm looking at the right item to uninstall.

Please update me on the status.

Not only no sound still
but now more issues since that uninstall of service pack 1 update.
Now I cannot see an sent or recieved messages in either yahoo messenger or aol instant messenger (aim). In yahoo I can type them, but that's all. Once sent can't see. In aim, the area i would type in, isn't even there.
In both I can see me desk top space where I should see sent/received im's (yahoo) or type im's in aim (See screenshots).
I can type in webforms, address bars, word documents, etc. so issue seems (so far) only with the chats.
Also, since the uninstall of service pack, my speaker icon in the quick launch bar, has green ))) instead of red x, and if i click on it, the volume control box pops which is has not done since March 8th, but still no sound.
Also, not sure if you know about Runescape MMORPG game, but they have a game client you can use to play the game, as alternative to a browser. With that service pack removal, that client no longer works either. However the game is loadable in a browser. Could this indicate something like a Javascript issue and if so, how would that be addressed? Java (though not verson 7 due to the security issues few months back and games not working with it), is working.

Really sorry to hear that.
Install Java run time enviorment (JRE). It can be downloaded from oracle website. The link given below.

After installing jave if you still have the issue uninstall and re install the messenger back.
We will do the sound issue later after solving the current issue

Hmm. my java is working. I am able to play my java based games. The reason I do not have java 7, is do to conflicts that made the games unplayable, and also the security. It is possible to get the lastest of version 6? I thought I had it but I do not. When I go to java site all I see is the latest version. Yes, sounds on the back burner for now (never thought i'd say that lol). I really need the chat's. It's how I keep daily contact with my Mom (is elderly).
