I have purchased an 8gb Memory card for the Z3-605, but I cannot figure out how to open the machine. I have searched for videos but none are similar to my model. Does anyone have any experience or reference material for opening the Z3-605-UR22? I have checked the generic user manual but the only instructions are

1. Remove screws from Chassis

2. Slide cover off

I removed the screws, work the plastic clips off all the way around, but its still connected in the middle of the back cover where the stand joins the panel. From what I can see, there are no screws and no way of "sliding" the cover off.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really need to get the memory card installed because I continue to receive a "Low Memory" error and I would hate for the system to become corrupted. Thanks!

I can't help much as I'm looking for the same info.

I only unscrewed the visible screws...like any normal PC.  After realizing it wasn't as easy as my other PCs, I check the manual which mentioned that "some models" can be opened, so I decided to check the Acer site for more details.  Nothing.  So I chatted with an Acer agent who told me that I need to take mine to a local technician.  If I attempt it on my own I'll void the warranty.  Yet, I also learned that the technician doesn't need to be certified, accredited, etc.  Very strange, and probably not entirely true.  The agent could only appologize to me for the confusion and for not being able to help me further.  Needless to say, I'm not happy, but not stopping altogether as I can't believe I'm the only one with this issue.

I was also told by the same agent that the z3-605-ur38 has four module slots, so max would be 4GB each.  I know yours is the ur22, but keep that kind of spec in mind as it might not be documented.

Maybe Acer will het a hint by now and respond in kind if they are monitoring this forum.

Funny - I went through the exact sequence you did and got the same answers.  Since you posted on March 22, and it's now April 18, I guess Acer is not monitoring this thread.

Like you, I really want to add RAM (I have the UR22 version).  Can a knowlegable Acer Tech please respond.

Opening the computer

Before removing any panels or covers, please make sure to shut off the
computer and unplug the power cord from the outlet.

• Remove the screws on the chassis.
• Slide the panel off.

Setting up new components
You can only use components compatible with AcerSystem computers.
Before you choose new components, please ask your authorized Acer
dealer whether the part will operate within your AcerSystem system.
In order to ensure proper setup and installation, please refer to the
instructions provided with your new components.

Probable upgrades are:
• Upgrade to high-capacity HDD
• Expand high-level memory
• Upgrade from a CD-ROM drive to CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD/CDRW
combo or DVD writer (selected models only)
• Install additional interface cards in empty PCI slots, e.g., PCI fax/
modem card (selected models only)

Thank you for your response - but the difficulty that I (and others) are having is 'sliding off the panel'. 

Can you please provide more instructions related to sliding off the panel.  Thank you.

Me too.  I just bought one of these for my wife, the UB37 to be exact, and I'd like some guidance before I start ripping the case open.  I contacted tech support and got the same response as everyone else.  They would not provide the instructions for opening the case, they suggested I take it to a qualified technician, and they said I would void the warranty if I damaged anything inside.

I did get more information, however.  My machine (if tech support was correct) was shipped with one 4GB memory DIMM, and it has an open slot for memory upgrades.

So -- if anybody is successful at getting to the insides to upgrade the memory, please provide instructions and/or pictures!!

Hello, I saw the comments here and thought I'd throw my input in . . .

On the back of the ACER Z3-605, there is a cover piece which looks attached to the stand, it has the ACER logo imprinted on it, and you will see some venting on the top side of the piece.

Get something that you can hook up into the venting, needlenose pliers, spudger, etc. and pull towards yourself. The cover will pop right off and you will see the screw mountings for the stand. Remove the (3) screws and you will release the tension on the back cover. Remove cover and TADA! you have access to the internals.
