Delete Recovery Partition

I was forced to recover from my partition.  It was and still is stuck trying to install office.  The recovery had loaded windows 7 and other programs before getting stuck.  I was able to create a non administrative user and open windows download items and use computer.  If I sign in as admin. it goes back to trying to load Office unless I enter in safe mode. Can I delete / format the recovery portion so this goes away? I do not need Office. I had made recovery discs and attempted to recover from them to no avail. Thank you for any help.

Re: Delete Recovery Partition

Hi Kiowaman

From what you describe, you have the blue bar at the bottom of your screen trying to load Microsoft Office (but failing)?  You do not need to delete your recovery partition to remove it:

1. Start up in Safe mode. Type "MSCONFIG" in the start menu search box & click the result.

2. Click the Startup tab and look for the entry named AlaunchX. Uncheck the entry then click Apply/OK. Restart your computer as normal. You will find that it is no longer trying to install Office.

3. However, you may also find that some drivers or applications have not loaded - you will need to do these manually from the Acer support site. If you're not sure, go to device manager to ensure all drivers are present.

Hope this helps

Re: Delete Recovery Partition

Unfortunately after performing a total recovery I was not able to completely remove the virus Rovnix which is attacking the Dos and Win 64. I have been instructed to download windows defender from a clean computer and run to remove Rovnix. I am afraid I will have format my total hard drive all partitions and or buy a new hard drive and reload win 7 from a clean DVD . Thank you for your suggestions if there any other options please advise.

Re: Delete Recovery Partition

That's really bad luck!

If you wish, you can use a program like DBAN. You'll need to download & burn it to disk. When you then boot from it, it deletes all the content of the hard drive. However it can take a while. Once complete, you can reinstall Windows.

Or, as you suggest, you can buy a brand new hard drive & reinstall Windows on that.

Re: Delete Recovery Partition

Thank you again for your suggestions I will try DBAN first, it is refreshing to see how reasonable new hard drives are now. Take care.
