Aspire Z3-600 won't boot with printer connected

Just brought home an Aspire All in one and it seemed to be working well.  I attached my printer using a 2.0 USB port and it behaved as expected.  Then I shutdown.  When I attempted to boot - nothing.  No beep, no Acer logo, just a black screen.  I unplugged the printer and it booted fine.  Reattached the printer and it worked fine.

I've tried downloading and installing the latest printer driver (the printer is an hp 4-in-one and about a year old) but that didn't change anything.

I later attached a DVD player and if there is a CD in the drive the system seems to be trying to boot off the CD player and has the same black screen response.

I tried looking at the boot order, but that seemed right.

Any ideas appreciated!

I might suggest going into the BIOS and resetting defaults (should be F9) just to make sure there isn't something causing the issue. It sounds like it's trying to boot off of something other than the HDD first.

Thanks for the idea ... tried it, but the behaviour is still the same: the system won't post with the printer attached via USB.
