I'm looking for a new desktop computer, the Acer Aspire XC600 with following specifications:
Acer Aspire XC600 - SFF - 1 x Core i5 3330 / 3 GHz - RAM 4 GB - HDD 1 x 1 TB - DVD SuperMulti - Radeon HD 7470 - Gigabit LAN - Windows 8 64-bit
Now, I would like to install Windows XP on this machine but I need to know for sure wether it will function correctly or not. I can find Windows XP drivers for the GPU, so that isn't any problem. Hard drive and DVD drive don't pose any issues either. But I can't find anywhere what type of motherboard is in this computer so I can't check wether there are any XP drivers for it. Can someone tell me what motherboard/chipset this computer uses and wether there are any XP drivers available or not? Thanks.
(Disclaimer: Yes, I know Windows XP is almost a legacy operating system and I know this is very old, poses some serious security risks etc. etc. But I need to run XP for certain reasons.)

The motherboard is an Acer motherboard.
We do not provide Windows XP drivers for any new systems.

We just went for it and installed every driver by hand. No issues whatsoever, allthough it was a serious pain to get the AHCI driver. Took us a while to figure out the chipset was an "Intel 6 Series/C200". "Intel H61 Express" is just too broad and impossible to find the correct drivers for.

Hi, I have the exact same computer and the same issue. Upon installing Windows XP, which in it self was a task and a half I now find myself struggling to find out the specs of the computer so I can locate the drivers.
Please help! I have to use XP 'cause the database system we use in our garage only runs on XP - they never made a new one and so please help us out.

I've just acquired this computer too, because I found all the drivers for a downgrade to XP x86.
I downloaded the windows 7 X86 drivers for this model on the acer website, and when I extracted them I found that they are all compatible with XP X86 except for two out of three video drivers.
The AMD driver includes the XP X86 driver, for nvidia you can download the driver on their website and for the intel driver download the driver for acer veriton X6610G.
I haven't had the time to install xp yet, but what difficulties did you encounter?

Due to hradware issues we need to downgrade acer Aspire XC600 to Windows XP x86 with new clean install, single boot only. The AHCI bios was modifyed to IDE and secure boot was disabled but the machine still doesn't boot from the XP installation disk. Please help how to solve this issue and install XP ont this piece of hardware. Thanks in advance

I managed to install xp x86 on this computer, here's how.
I downloaded the AHCI Driver from acer website which is 100% compatible with XP x86.
Then I use nlite to integrate the ahci driver into xp's iso image. You have to read how to use it.
You can skip the ahci driver, and remain with ide but you'll miss the sata benefit.
To boot from xp's cd, not only you have to disable "secure boot" from the bios but also check under the tab "Boot options" you'll find "launch csm", change it to "always". You'll be able to boot from XP's cd.
I found another issue when I tried to back up the hard drive the first time I installed XP.
I suggest backing up your hard drive before installing XP (not only partitions) with clonezilla (freeware: linux iso image); the hard drive is formatted in GPT, for Windows 8 x64, which is incompatible with XP x86.
Then with gparted (freeware: iso image) I formatted the whole drive in MSDOS which is compatible with XP x86.
Then you're ready to install xp with all the drivers as described in my previous post.
Let me know how you manage.
