Hi i am having issues with my harddrive where i cannot perform a backup because the pc reports there is no space on the D:drive i will explain below:

On my C:drive i have total size:180 gb.

The bios says i have 500 gb of space on harddrive.

On my D:drive i have a total of 270gb and the pc reports there is only 2.78 mb left however when i open up the d:drive there is a maximum of 570mb being used.

When i try to backup my pc it tells me there is no space on the d:drive.

I was not able to find any discussions on this site to help me so i generate a ticket.

I could really use your help!

Thanks tech1126

Hi IronFly glad to hear from you again.

I did what you asked me to do and nothing happens,Just so you know i upgraded to windows 7 sp1 but this problem we're working on migrated over from the upgrade from windows vista meaning this problem started abouit a week ago when i tried to back up my files.I went over to system information and it shows both c:drive and d:drive.

I did a diagnostic on the drive and all is well.

Hi Ironfly i have spent hours trying to get a screenshot of the disk management via the PAINT tool to no avail.I just donh't know how to do this which for me is very frustrating. If you can tell me what data you need perhaps i can do this manually for you?

    I really appreciate your time!

please expand disk management windows, i need to check capapcity, free space and take another screenshot.

by the way, doing a backup on the same Disk (C and D are only partitions on the same HDD) is not a good way to do it, since if your HDD fails...you will lost your backup too.

so i strongly suggest you to buy and external USB HDD to do backups.

can you take a screenshot where your PC tells that D is full?

can you also post the error code or a screenshot of windows backup?

Hi ironfly i ran a CHKDSK on my HDD and now the D:drive is reoprting 270gb free,336 mb used at 100%

The chkdsk took a long time but came back ok.I will give you a couple of screenshots you asked for shortly because i saw the backup generate an error code thus not allowing me to do a backup.I understand i must get a usb hdd soon.

ok, no need of screenshots apart the one with the backup error.

Please buy an external USB HDD and remember to format as NTFS or it will not be available as backup unit.

Hi Ironfly i want to thank you for all of your help with my HDD issue since without your assistance i would not have been able to get a solution to the false readings on my HDD.

Now i was not able to get a screenshot of the error code when attempting to do a backup so i have the entire error code and message for you just below:

    First message:

I started the backup and right away i get this error code:

The task image is corrupt or has been taqmpered with (0x80041321)

Just a reminder This is a message from the action center remember i upgraded to Windows 7 home premium last week!

    2nd message below:

I clicked on Run Backup Now button and i get another warning:

Windows could not disable the automatic backup job for the following reason:

    (0x80041321)

Ok Ironfly there you have it this is all the data that is generated when attempting to perform a backup!

    Thanks alot
