I have a 2 year old ACER XC-603G desktop PC.  I recently tried to hookup 2 monitors to extend my desktop over 2 screens.

I have one monitor hooked up to the VGA port and goes to the VGA input on the 1st monitor.  For the other monitor I have a HDMI to VGA cable.  Using the HDMI output of the PC going to the VGA input on the monitor.

Nothing is coming out of the HDMI port to the monitor, the monitor says cable not connected.

Can you run 2 monitors via this method and if so, how?

    HDMI is a digital signal

    VGA is analog signal

so you need an D/A converter, not just a straight HDMI-VGA cable and even with a D/A converter, sometimes is not so easy to have it recognise the signal.

i strongly suggest you to find a monitor with HDMI input, the image quality will be way better.

    I'm not an Acer employee.

Thanks.  Changed cables to a HDMI to DVI and it worked.
