Problem installing NVIDIA driver on E5-571G

I recently bought an Acer E5-571G. It was sold as being without operating system - but it had Linux on. I finally managed to install windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I updated the drivers including the Intel Hd graphics.

I cannot install the nvidia driver for the 840M graphics card. The drivers on the resource DVD or the acer website don't work. I've tried different versions, including windows 8 drivers.

i get a compatibility error message:

NVIDIA Installer cannot continue
The NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of windows.
This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Steve

Can you please help? Thanks.

Ironfly -thanks for taking the tme to rely.

I had already tried that driver - 337.88 -International, but I downloaded and tried again, just i case. But I got the same message as in the original post.

    Any other ideas?

Is there maybe some other setting I have to chnage so the nvidia driver can install?

In Device Manager I get the Yellow exclamation mark next to: Other Devices > 3D Video controller

Display Adapter is OK, showing: Intel (R) HD Graphics Family

    Thanks for any hlep.

double click on the device with the Yellow exclamation mark, then click on Details tab and scroll down to "hardware ID" on propriety menu, highlight the first value and copy/paste here the value.

the Acer nvdia drivers you downloaded are 9.18.13.3235?

    I also tried:

    Try this:

    http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/335series/33788_win8x64/nv_dispi.inf

    copy  nv_dispi.inf to:

    C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\337.88\Win8_WinVista_Win7_64\International\dispplay.driver

and Confirm to overwrite the nv_dispi.inf present.

then start Setup.exe in the international folder.

if this still not work, download this drivers and try to install:

    http://download.laptopvideo2go.com/nvidia/330series/33291_win8x64.exe

    Thanks  for the suggestions.

    When I clicked in:

    http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/335series/33788_win8x64/nv_dispi.inf

it took me to a page full of text. I didn't now how to download this as a file. I just copied it all.

I then opened nv_dispi.inf in notepad, replaced with orignal text and saved/closed.

I noticed the original was formatted in neat rows, what I copied wasn't.

I then ran Setup.exe in the international folder (run as administrator). This time I got a different eror message:

    Capture 2.PNG

I think this got further in the process than previusly.

I then tried the second option. The link

    http://download.laptopvideo2go.com/nvidia/330series/33291_win8x64.exe

    took me to the message:

    Unrecognized Referer

We have recognized that the website you are coming from is not what we hoped it would be (http://community.acer.com/t5/forums/replypage/board-id/notebooks/message-id/43062). Please head over to the LaptopVideo2Go website and try again

I searched on the website and found what I think was the right driver:

    http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drivers/win8x64/332.91/disclaimer

    I downloaded the file: 33291_win8x64.exe (244,767kb)

    I ran this as administrator.

A DOS window opened and a number of files were extracted - but after that nothing, no nvidia driver install window.

Is this the right file? Do I have to do something else?

I appreciate you trying to help me with this.

    Thanks

    Steve

the last one you downloaded must have extracted the files on a folder called "332.91_win8x64" in the same location where you downloaded the "33291_win8x64.exe", you must check inside "332.91_win8x64" folder for a "setup.exe" file and run it.

the first one, .inf, probably failed because win7 has a signed drivers check.

double click on the device with the Yellow exclamation mark and click on  driver tab, click to install manually the drivers and point to the folder where the modified .inf is.

let me know if windows will pop up errors about unsigned drivers.

Another user got the same error message, he did the same modifications and got success:
    http://community.acer.com/t5/Ultra-Thin/V5-573G-and-installing-GTX-850M-drivers/m-p/270184

this is interesting since the .inf i gave you is modified to work as he did....by the way is not a correct behaviour especially on Acer drivers.

    Another thing to try:
    Uninstall the intel graphic drivers
Use Display driver unisntaller to clean all the graphic drivers

    http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html
    Reboot
Install FIRST the last acer nvidia driver (enabling advanced option with "clean install") then install intel HD drivers.

IronFly - thanks for the advice.

I couldn't get these ideas to work, but I found out why...

I had a few issues installing windows 7 at the start because the laptop had Linux pre-installed, rather than being totally without an operating system. In the end I installed 32 bit by mistake, instead of the 64 bit I'd planned to install. I didn't notice...

After a clean install of windows 7 64 bit everything was fine. Using the standard drivers (which you recommended in your first post) everything is ok, and the NVIDIA card is now recognised.

Interestingly all the the other drivers worked ok, only the NVIDIA caused issues.

Sorry to have wasted your time, issue is now sovled.

    Thanks again for your help.
