Is there a method to re-flash a corrupt BIOS for Acer Aspire One D260 (D260-2Dwk)?

My Acer One D260 does not boot anymore into Windows, I get only a black screen when it's ON. I downloaded the BIOS from the support web page, but I cannot flash it since the computer does not show anything, I cannot enter BIOS or Windows.

So, I would like to know it there is a way to flash BIOS again under these circumstances (like I found for Acer Aspire One A110 or A150, but the method found in this forum does not work with Acer Aspire One D260.

If the system will not boot, we do not have a method available for end users to flash the BIOS.

We would suggest contacting technical support in your region for further assistance with this issue.

How did you determine that the BIOS is corrupt?

It could be that the video card is having an issue.

Have you attempted to connect an external monitor?

Of course I tried to use an external monitor, no success. The video card is integrated in the Atom processor, I don't think that could be the problem. The nettop stopped working after some shutdowns while booting, not a wise practice, I know, but I was trying to upgrade the ram and did not want to wait till full boot into OS. So, after a shutdown, the computer would not boot anymore, not image on external monitor, memory tested and ok, all I can think of is the BIOS to have been damaged. So, the question is the same, can a new BIOS be flashed on this machine?

    *cough*

Acer actually purchased Gateway, not the other way around.

The process you are attempting does not work for that model.   Please contact service as instructed above.

I decided to take the hard way and I bought a BIOS chip for my Acer Aspire One D260. I am going to try to solder it on the mainboard next week when I have time but any tips about this would be welcome. From what I read on internet, is not evern easy to identify the BIOS chip on the motherboad cos' there are other chips alike...

Taking it to service is now out of question because I already bought a new laptop and I am going to try to have some fun with the broken one, see what happens. But again, sugestions are welcome...

Ok, so replacing the BIOS chip did not really work, I guess I made a mistake when soldering the pins and in the end I had to look for a new motherboard, found only on ebay, bought it and replaced it. I knew from the beginning that this was not a very economical solution since the cost of the motherboard + postal fee + customs taxes (+ time) covers maybe more then the cost of a used laptop like this, but I just wanted to prove myself that I can do it Smiley Happy
