I think what Acer-Tommy is trying to say is resinstall or update the driver ;-). This came from another forum but it was the same issue and others said that it worked:

    Open computer management
    Clicked on device manager
double clicked Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Network Adapter
    selected driver tab
    selected Update Driver...
    selected Browse My Computer...
selected Let me pick from a list of device drivers...
    selected Have Disk...
navigated to the directory where the win 7 driver was and installed it
(for me the path was C:\Users\myname\Documents\Drivers\Wireless LAN_Atheros_10.0.0.38_W7x64_A\WLAN_Atheros_10.0.0.38_W7x64\ndis6xWin7\netathrx)

What laptop model are you having issues with?

Did the unit ship with Windows 8 or was this an upgrade?

If this is an upgrade, is the unit listed on the Windows 8 Upgrade page as a support unit?

All Windows 8 drivers are uploaded for systems that are eligible for the upgrade program.

I mean, evidently there is a HUGE PROBLEM with the connectivity issues and seems that it has been happening for a while.

I am in no way computer literate when it comes to drivers or installing them, but since my windows update a few days ago, my aspire V3-771 has had limited connection to the internet, whereas before my connection was very fast and the wifi did not drop at all.

Why can't Acer address this issue? I've downloaded the Live Updater and the HW Detection tools from Acer and it tells me that there is nothing wrong with the atheros AR5BWB222 wireless network adapter, but through my research I see that there is.

Once again, can ACER address this because its becoming increasingly frustrating

Having the same issue with Aspire v3-731, wifi drops every 5-10 minutes.

Removed old and installed wifi/bluetooth driver also updated the bios to latest at support site.

Seems the problem is wie spread. This is my first Acer laptop and is not a good experience!

    Hi,

I did a PC refresh and after doing this a couple times to see the issue, I have finally pinpointed where the culprit lies.

After playing around with my router, uninstalling my anti virus and everything else in between, I found out that the QCA Wifi Driver 10.0.0.217 and the Atheros Blue Tooth Driver 8.0.000.0206 are the drivers that have the conflict. In other words, these two drivers are the ones that are making the connection 'limited'.

Everytime I reinstalled these after my PC refresh my computer internet connection became 'limited'. However, after my 3rd PC refresh I decided not to reinstall these drivers. Because of this decision I have had no further issues whatsoever with my internet connection dropping or becoming 'limited' at all. Furthermore, as soon as I boot my computer, the internet is connected, whereas before, with these drivers installed, this was not happening at all.

Clearly, there is a massive issue with these drivers. I had to - as computer illiterate that I am -  figure this out for myself.

In conclusion, I will not be installing any new drivers for my Windows 8 Acer Aspire V3-771, until I get official confirmation from an Acer technician regarding these issues. Clearly there is some major problem as after days of research, I see that so many folk who have Windows 8 are the ones who are suffering from this major malfunction; I'm not sure if it is affecting any other models of Acers laptops/PCs, I just know, from what I had to learn that a lot of folk are having these issues.  And that is not a good thing at all for the brand name of Acer.

I have the same problem with my Aspire V5-571 WIndows 8 64 Bit with the Atheros Wireless LAN Driver that I just bought last week.  I can't stream any videos because it would just pause due to disconnection every 10 minutes.  I am ready to return this laptop but I can't because Microsoft store don't accept returns onced opened. Terrible!

There is an updated Wireless LAN Driver 10.0.0.217 dated 2012/12/04 and I installed that but I am still having issues. Wost than before.  I was so ***** yesterday trying to stream the NFL Sunday Ticket on this laptop because it kept disconnecting every 15 minutes!!!!!

Someone help!  I tried doing the 'Verify eligibility for In Warranty Phone Support and nothing works.  What's the tech support number?

I am seeing all kinds of problems by consumers related to this.  The only reason I bought a laptop is to use the internet and I can't use it for that main purpose!   ACER should be ashame of themselves.  Talk about a class action law suit waiting to happen.

OK, it seems to be solved for my Aspire v3 -731,

    Install new bios (UEFI)

Totally uninstall the old bluetooth and wifi drivers

    reboot

install the latest bluetooth and wifi driver from support

    reboot

Working without the dropped connection issues.

Ok I installed the new bios

    BIOS_Acer_2.09_A_A

Then I uninstalled the wireless adapter from device manager.

Ran setup with the new driver

    Wireless LAN_Atheros_10.0.0.217_W8x64_A

So now let's see if it works.  Streaming my slingbox so I will know if it loses connection.

    To be updated

Seems to have worked. Havn't had one issue of limited connectivity on 2 differnt routers.

    Here's the document per ACER

    Document ID: 27675

    WiFi and Bluetooth Transfers Unstable

There is an issue with previous versions of the Atheros WiFi and Bluetooth combo drivers for Windows 8, which caused a packet stability issue. (v10.0.0.75, v10.0.0.204, and v10.0.0.209)

It is recommended to download v10.0.0.217 or later of the Atheros Wireless LAN driver to resolve this issue.

    1. Visit the Download Section of Acer support website.
    2. Under Select Product Family, choose your product family.
    3. Under Select Product Line, choose your product line.
    4. Under Select Product Model, choose your product model.
    5. Choose your operating system from the "Please Select Your OS" window and click Confirm..
    6. On the next page, click on the Drivers tab. Atheros Wireless LAN 10.0.0.217 (or later).
    7. Click Save and select where you want to download the file.
    8. For additional information on how to install the downloaded driver, please visit Installing a downloaded driver on Windows 8.

the problem is solved:  i simply went to the highpoint acer service center at Low Yat Plaza 4th floor. they know the problem and solved it in no time. just need the latest version of the wifi driver.

good luck to all who suffer with the same problem.

    cheers and Happy New Year

Aspire V3-571G, Windows 8, Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 network adaptor

I installed the new driver from the Acer support site (10.0.0.217), and am still having intermittent WiFi failures every 15-20 minutes (shows up as limited connectivity).

Has anyone resolved this problem on a V3-571G, Windows 8, with the 10.0.0.217 driver?

I will definitely be returning this if I can't get this resolved, as it's unusable as is.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks

We tried a lot of driver verisons, each with stability problems. E.g. the win7 driver resulted in blue screens. 10.0.0.217 and 10.0.0.75 weren't stable either. After 10.0.0.75 I installed Wireless LAN_Atheros_10.0.0.200_W8x64UW8x86U_A on a V5-531 and wireless is stable now for some days. Device Manager shows driver version 10.0.0.77, I don't know the reason for that version difference, but as long it is working, we stay on this driver until a stable updated version is available. We do have some bluetooth error messages when rebooting the machine, but currently we do not use bluetooth, so that's not an issue now.

Are you guys also flashing new bios?  Installing just the new .217 driver didn't work for me.  It was fixed once I flashed the new bios, uninstalled the wireless, and installed the .217 driver.

It worked for my Acer V5-571. I have not had any limited connectivity since.
