notebook came with xp, just installed win 7 for the first time (3 years later). wireless button doesn't work, driver is updated to latest version, wireless connection troubleshooter says 'wireless capability is turned off'. manual and all forums point towards the button as the only way to enable wifi, the network center's disable/enable function for wifi has no effect.

how do i get this button to work in win 7?

also tried launch manager to no avail. doesn't seem to govern this button.

thx!

I'm going to assume the wireless adapter is listed in Device Manager.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling there?

Launch manager should control the button.

Also, you may want to get Acer Updater from the Driver page, just to see if there are any updates there.

yes, it's listed there. i uninstalled it and got the latest version from intel (acer doesn't offer it on the x64 page). no success.

the launch manager seems to control all the other buttons like P, e, browser etc, but doesn't mention the wifi button (or bluetooth).

acer update doesn't find any updates.

    thx for your help!

Any driver not listed on the Windows 7 downloads would be because it is installed by the operating system.

Getting an updated driver from Intel works as well.

That the driver installed is good, but it's troubling that you're unable to active the card.

It's not disabled in Device Manager?

and it was working in Windows XP and turned ON when you did the upgrade?

i didn't do an upgrade, but wiped and installed win7 from scratch. shouldn't make a difference tho, right? it did work in XP (which was the installation the laptop came with). it is not disabled either. the diagnostic tool correctly identifies the button to be the issue. but pushing it does nothing. is there a trick with the launch manager to activate those buttons (bluetooth as well)?

    Correct, installed / upgraded.

There is no particular "trick" to using Launch Manager, and it should work.

Does the 'e' button work to launch the Empowering Technology toolbar?

Does the light ever come on for the wireless or bluetooth?

the e button results in "the system canot find the file specified".

the wifi button light does not come on upon pressing it. neither the bluetooth one.

    thx!
