SOMEHOW I touched two fingers to the touchpad and some other button on the keypad to turn my display into "negative" mode. I've tried everything to return it to normal and can't. I have chromecast and everything broadcasts to my tv as normal but my pc screen is still negative.

You might have accidently enabled the high contrast option in chrome book. Try the below steps and see if that solve the issue. If not reinstall chrome OS that will solve the issue.
If you haven’t already, sign in to your Chromebook. You can change your accessibility settings when you turn
on your Chromebook for the first time by clicking on the Accessibility area in the lower left corner as you review the Chrome OS Terms and Conditions.
Click the status area in the lower-right corner, where your account picture appears.
Select Settings.
Click Show advanced settings at the bottom of the page.
In the "Accessibility" section, select any of the following checkboxes
Disable high contrast mode.
Link to reintall Chrome OS.
