I'm not able to shrink the C:/ of my acer 3830tg laptop. Has it got anything to do with admin privilages? Authenticated users do not have full control on the drive. How can I shrink the drive so that i can install linux in a drive.

Yes, you need to be logged in as a system Administrator.
Disk Management should let you change partition sizes, depending on available free space. Note that a system volume can only shrink to 50% at most.
