AOD255E   Acer Aspire one with atom 1.5gh processor.  1gb memory,  windows 7 pro.  32bit.  20gb free disk space

experiencing poor performance-  mouse lags, keyboard entries delayed in appearing on screen, slow loading of programs...all this in association with a hard disk light that is on most of the time.

i have run ms defender antivirus; defrag; cleanup etc.       In the for what its worth category-  the machine has tried to install 14 updates and has hung a couple of times on number 3 of 14;  and on shutting down the computer there is a note "are you sure you want to shut down, other users connected to this machine" when there are not other users.  btw. disconnecing the machine from the internet by shutting off the wifi doesn't appear to  improve the performance or the drive activity

Why not try doing a recovery to eliminate any software issues? To do this go into the start menu, under programs and files and look for the Acer folder. In this folder look for Acer eRecovery Management. Open this program and wait for it to load. Once it does look on the left for recovery. In this menu select the first option "restore to factory defaults". This will wipe Windows and make the computer like brand new. If you're still having issues then you know 100% you're having hardware issues.
