the advice on the official faq says ram cannot be added to the d260 but I have a d270. how do you replace the 1gb with a 2 gb memory

The AOD270's RAM is not considered user accessible. It is recommended that someone familiar with the proceedure perform it.
To replace the current stick with a 2GB stick, please follow these directions:
1. Remove the battery pack.
2. Remove any dummy cards.
3. Remove the keyboard utilizing the four tabs at the top of the keyboard and by disconnecting the ribbon cable.
4. Remove the 14 screws securing the base cover. These are located underneath where the keyboard was.
5. Press the base cover release tab located near the bottom right of the hard disk drive.
6. Once the base cover is removed the RAM will be visible and accessible. Push the DIMM clips on each side of the chip outwards to remove.
7. Reverse steps to reassemble unit.
