Vic, I don't know how much hardware geek skill you have, but you need to know the model number of your cracked monitor. If it still works or you can use an external monitor, use Device Manager to find out your monitor's model number. If you can't find it, go to http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm to download their free monitor info program.
Remembering that you can buy a new laptop for about $200, look up your monitor to see how much a replacement will cost. If you can't do it yourself (like most people, so don't feel bad) add in the cost of a repair shop.
