Hi i am trying to find out where my problem lies, after a short period on charge both the power on and battery lights start flashing together and no charge is made to the battery, on occasions when laptop powered off i can get the battery to charge, do i have a faulty dc socket or battery does anyone have experience /advice please.
It could be the adapter, the battery or the power board internally.

Normally I find it is the battery but you really do need a known good working battery & adapter to determine what part is faulty.
