General update:
It happened again this past Tuesday. I've since turned off automatic updates in Windows and will see how this pans out. I'll give it another week or so - if it happens again, guess I'm going back to Windows 8.

Still happening...happened today sometime mid day...burned through 36% of my dock battery in a matter of hours. This is just awful. I feel like I'm damaging my CPU at this point.

I've sinced reverted back to Windows 8. The problem is vague enough, sporadic enough, and *potentially damaging* enough for me to just give up.
No problems yet, but it hasn't been all that long.
FYI, my File History from 8.1 Preview successfully restored most of my files and settings in Windows 8.

I wonder if the problems are related to the dock. I've been using my tablet without the dock for more than a week and so far it looks to me the standby is longer than with the dock.
Have any of you expirienced the battery drain and high CPU use (warm corner) without the keyboard dock attached?

Just a thought but have you tried turning off fast boot ?

Mine used to hang forever on shutdown until I turned it off.

That's a slightly different issue - if it only happens when you close the lid, it's likely the video driver. I had the same issue; when I first installed Windows 8.1 Preview I allowed Windows update to install the latest Intel video driver, which was the culprit for being unable to wake up the device when it went to sleep from closing the lid. Installing the video driver from the driver pack on Acer's site fixed that issue.

That is something that I did not try. For those still with 8.1, give this a whirl and report.
I would like to move to 8.1 at some point, as it's got some niceties that I appreciated.
