Recently, my Acer M264 Desktop stopped booting. When turned on, it beeps once, boots to the "Acer" screen (ACER logo, DEL = EnterSetup, F12 = Boot Menu). I can only hit DEL or ESC to go to the next screen, F12 does nothing. the text is:

BIOS Version: P01-A0
Release date: 9/24/2009
This BIOS is exclusively for Acer only.
Copyright 2002-2009 by Acer Inc
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7600 @3.06GHz
Stepping: A CPUID: 001067a
Cache L1 Size: 64Kb
Cache L2 Size: 3072Kb

Boot Selection Popup Menu has been selected.
EM64T Capable Processor
The MCH is operating with DDR2 800/CL6/Tras18/Trp6/Trcs16
Dual Channel Mode
2048Mb OK (8MB Shared Memory Size Used) . On the second screen, I cannot select a drive to boot from or get the system to do anything else.

I have tried the following:
-Removed CMOS battery and changed the jumper position
-Removed the RAM and booted to hear any beep codes - only received a long steady one
-unplugged both hard drive cables SATA and ATA/IDE?
-no graphics card is in the system (using internal)
-tried reseating the CPU

Any other suggestions or is this a bigger problem?

Thanks

Tim

    Hi Tim

Does anything happen if you try booting in to Safe Mode?

To be honest, it sounds as if the motherboard has a fault - perhaps the BIOS has become corrupted. Flashing the BIOS may help, but if you can't access the boot options, this will be a problem! For further confirmation, contact Acer Support, or try your local PC store.
