Alan6101: Did you find it difficult to open up the back?
em 10-27-2013 05:21 PM
It's not difficult to open the back. It's actually really easy except for 3 screws. You take out all the visible torx screws. Then under the short rubber strip that's basically under where the "N" key on the keyboard is the is one more torx screw, it is in the center of the strip with a non screw hole on each side. Opposite of it is a longer rubber strip, almost at the back of the divice, in the center. Under each end of that strip is another torx.
If you have fingernails you can slip up the edge of those rubber strips with a little effort. The strips are held on with double sided tape and I wouldn't expect it to stick if you removed it many times. But so far after 2 removals I've been able to massage the rubber strip back into place and it sticks fine.

The UK price converts to about $1,700 american for the one with the Haswell Processor and the I5. The Comparable Sony with a 4th generation I7 is 1,250 and will be in Best Buy in a week or two.
No brainer to forget about Acer then.

OK! Everyone is right STAY AWAY FROM THIS LAPTOP!!!!
I just received my "new replacement unit"
First thing I noticed... there was dirt and a couple of hairs between the plastic that was around the unit.
Made me think, before even taking it out... They assured me I would not get a refurbished unit, that it would be new... I seriously doubt this is!!!
Next I take it out, plug in my mouse, and start it up...
I begin to go through the setup routine.
I get to the first step that requires me to type something in (PC NAME), and realize the keyboard isnt working....
I reach up for the touch pad and the touch pad isnt working... I tried the function key+disable/enable keyboard... NOTHING... backlight doesnt come on or anything. Same with the enable/disable trackpad function... at this point I have no choice but to competely power it down.
I close the lid, and come back a few minutes later to start it back up (this time with my mouse unplugged) and it goes straight to a "repair" process, and tells me it cant repair the computer. but hey, the mouse and keyboard are working...
I go to move the screen closer to me, and notice they keyboard backlight goes out... try they keyboard... nothing... try the trackpad.... nothing... I move the screen around and notice that the keyboard and mouse seem to stop working and the backlight flickers off an on while the screen is being moved... You have to fiddle with it to get it in just the right place to work.
I still can not get the machine to boot up.
I have no idea if the wifi is fixed because it will not boot up and the keyboard and mouse seem to have some sort of short.
I'm going to have to contact acer support again.
VERY upset about this $1,000 compete pice of junk I have purchased!!!!!
STAY CLEAR OF THIS LAPTOP!!!!!

I contacted Acer support again.
I have had the privilidge of dealing with Karen C. both times.
They are sending, yet another, replacement.
So far the agents I have been in contact with have been helpful and friendly enough, but is clear that the only solution acer provides is inadequate. This entire product line needs to be recalled but acer is greedy and refuses to do anything about it.
Acer is a rare example of a HORRIBLE company, with great Customer Support Agents.
Over 700 posts on here??? And what about the people that just suck it up and dont complain? I'm sure there are VERY VERY few Acer R7 owners who are happy about spending 2-4 weeks of wages on a piece of JUNK!
I wish I had never purchased this laptop, and it WILL be the LAST acer product I will purchase for the company I provide support for. I certianly will never purchase another Acer product for my personal use or recommend them to any family member.
