I hope you will find solutions for the wifi issues guys so you can enjoy the real beauty of this thing! I replied here just to try to help you guys with finding an explanation to your problems.

Any questions guys?

I've got a repacement on the way to fix my wifi issue... Can you tell me if you have any issues with your keyboard's space bar?
I'm hoping they fixed that in a later revision as well. I have found that, if you have larger hands and your thumbs dont hit squarely in the middle of the space bar (vertical center), it does not register the keystroke.

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Thanks TaminRob - Sorry it took me so long - I missed your response

How's your machine working?  Just when I was ready to upgrade, my R7 started shutting down on it's own  randomly - mostly when in tablet mode - It soon became serious, so I took it back to Best Buy - had to argue a little with the folks since it was pass their 15-day return window.  Eventually I was able to convince them to exchange - started installing my software last night - turned in on today - got the blue screen of death - stating a boot file (\BCD) is missing - contact system admin.  Bumper..

Debating whether I want to take it back or troubleshoot it myself..  I really like this laptop, but I'm starting to lose faith that I'm going get this thing to work the way I want it too.  I usually don't worry about OS issues, especially since it's new, but all these little issues are starting to bother me..  I need to get to the business of why I brought this thing - instead of wasting all this time trying to keep it working..

Hope yours is still up and running - I need some hope about now...:smileyhappy:

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

The Sony unit should hit stores next week. Same price point, looks like a better hinge and much better customer service.

Obviously I am not posting any links here, but if you check out Sony Flip at Best Buy you will see the Unit. It also comes in different sizes as well.

I am glad I took this unit back. I would have pulled all my hair out by now trying to fix all these problems or trying to buy band aid equipment to get around them.

The worst thing to read about a return is that the replacement did not work. That is just horrible customer service!

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Ok - I'm feeling better now - I decided to troubleshoot the blue screem issue myself - I forgot we have two of these in the house and was able to create the USB recovery disk - turns out the blue screen had something to do with Windows 8.1 update - Installed it too soon without updating the firmware first.  The update played haven with a boot manager file (\BCD).  So for now I'm back in business except that the wireless problem is back even with the new router - go figure.  My wife's R7  is still getting 36 mbps while my new laptop can't even connect to the 5ghz and only 12 mbps on 2.4mhz which is still a lot better than I was getting before the new router.  Very strange - I ordered the wireless adapter Taminrob shared with us - so stay tuned.  (BTW:  as I'm typing this the space bar is too tight on the right thumb, and not putting in spaces without me being conscious of it.  Hopefully, this will work itself out..  BTW:  My wife's R7 works flawlessly..  Life is cruel...

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Before you praise Sony to much

you may want to try the new unit

They aint what they used to be

High costs and still bad stuff

Went through two of their devices

and both awful  Had to get a refund

There customer service stinks by the way

Dont count your chickens before they hatch

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Fadil, laptop is running great other than one little hitch...thing takes forever to wake from sleep!  It should be almost instant recovery, but for some reason, it takes from 30 sec to a minute.  Im scratching my head over that one and to be honest, Im about to the point of exchanging it for another machine because I cant stand to have a machine that doesnt function properly...I mean, whats the point of a SSD if you still have to wait for long boot times?  Perhaps I'll try the 8.1 update first, but from what I hear, that may just create more problems.

BUT, My wifi issue is non-existant, have not dropped connection once since my card upgrade.  And another nice thing...if I do switch to another machine, I can take my WIFI card, RAM and SSD with me to the new computer so Im not out anything.

I had the same issue where one day I had fast wifi and the next day it was slow. My issue was that windows update had installed a Microsoft driver for the wifi card. After reinstalling the Broadcom driver from the acer site my wifi speeds were back.

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Has anyone conclusively found the problem? I've seen a lot of speculation but no definitive answer.

Also, has anyone who has swapped the card to an Intel 7260 been able to get the bluetooth to work?

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

No Bluetooth on the R7 with Windows 8.  I have not done the upgrade to 8.1 yet but it has been suggested that that may correct the problem...

Not sure why it will not work with this machine, I installed the same card in a Samsung machine running Windows 8 and then the upgrade to 8.1 and everything works.  Im tempted to try a "fresh" Windows install without all of the Acer programs to see if that helps because it really doesnt make sense for it not to be enabled.
