HyOnLyph you are probably not going to be happy unless the new machine already has all the fixes. It appears they need to upgrade the memory and the antenna at a minimum.
The amazing thing about this 6 month epidemic of horrible customer service is the amount of "open box" machines now available at Best Buys through out the country. Do your own search if you do not believe this. Usually there is one or two throughout the U.S. WIth this machine they are all over.
I have been searching stores and have not found anything shipped in the last few months. When I tell the sales person about the issue they start right out making excuses, blaming Windows 8, etc. etc. Then they ask how I know this and I tell them to check their own site on the product.
If you really want to roll the dice on this machine, just wait till Black Friday as I am sure Best Buy will drop the price at least $100 and maybe even more to try to get rid of these lemons to unsuspecting customers.
I would not look for any update on this machine to come out while there is such a large inventory of the one with bad WIFI and other problems still available.
Getting an external WIFI adaptor to use up a USB port is certainly an option. Just like running a 200 foot Ethernet cable through the house, instead of using WIFI. ![]()
Not to say there are not good Customer Service people who are trying. Just that with the options available they really are at the mercy of the poor equipment.

Last update work?
Hi, in my case, I have a acer v3 which has the same wifi card atheros for acer notebook r7, and I also 8 months I have connexion problems.
Yesterday I updated the drivers to the latest version 10.0.0.263 for windows 8.1, for 8 hours worked perfect, but the other day I began to notice that lingered to load some pages, presenting the symptom while initiating various pages, the difference I noticed is that not many more message connexion launches limited.
If someone update the drivers and gives the same problem please detail, so I remove the doubt.

Well fellows - I've got good news, and the same news - Again we all know the wifi is pretty bad on this machine, and I'm sure we all disappointed because we/me really like the design of this laptop. It definitely stands out from the rest. If you seen my previous post of following Tamirob advice with upgrading wireless card, memory etc.. well I received my new AC router Thursday http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F0DD0I6/ref=oh
This solution is not helping anybody that doesn't want to kick out another $200 for a new router (which btw only cost me $44.00 - thank God for discovery reward points) but you do not have to get that particular router - just one that do dual band.. - then take your old router and update the firmware to DD-WRT build and use it as a AP for your 2.4 devices.. Just another idea....

ACER - LISTEN TO ME PLEASE: You really should address this problem. This laptop is the Coolest, how do you blow something so unique and awesome like this machine with a jack-up wifi - That's like making a 2015 Lamborghini and and putting in a 5 gallon gas tank - it's not going to make it far. Wifi these days is so important on a PORTABLE laptop. Ok you made a mistake, we can forgive you for that - we're all human - BUT MAN - FIX IT - FOR GOD SAKES!! DO IT FOR ME - MY MAIN PC IS A ACER PREDATOR WITH THE FRONT STILL ATTACHED, AND I'M 60 YEARS OLD - (did I say that out loud..? My bad - oh well - I still love my predator lol) FIX IT NOW...
PS: I seen that new wifi software update, but I'm scared to install it until somebody reviews it... I do not want to mess up my good thing...

Just for you guys' information.
The only workable solution is to approach Customer Service.
I bought a USB adaptor, and it did not work either.
Although it looks a bit more reliable than the internal adaptor, the same problem persists as you start surfing internet.
Conclusion:
1. not antenna problem
2. not adaptor problem ( maybe)
3. not bios problem
4. not system problem (someone reinstalled win7, same problem exists)
5. not even the router issue ( my 4-year-old HP G42 has 20 times faster downloading speed than R7 from the same router)
Possible cause: some hardware manufacturing issue (on the chipset).
Temporary solution: use a WIRED USB adaptor instead....

SAME WI-FI PROBLEM HERE. I just bought this ACER R7 CONVERTIBLE LAPTOP from Best Buy 4 days ago. I've only used it a few times to test the sound and video quality (which are amazing), BUT if i walk 20 feet from our wireless router, my signal goes CAPUT ! ! Im a college student; my classmates and I don't have time to position ourselves directly under wireless routers, on top of tables, as we stretch and form cheerleader positions/arches in order to recieve a signal. GET REAL !!! IT'S 2013 "Nobody's got time for that"! I'm taking it directly back to the return desk at Best Buy and getting my money back . . . let them argue with Acer . . . You're worth your weight in gold for putting this info. out here so that we wouldn't have to suffer as much as we argue and wonder why this problem would even exist in a BRAND NEW MANUFACTURED PRODUCT which costs $900.00 smackers in the face ! Thank you for telling us !

This is an answer withOUT an answer.... if you dunno the answer, say you dunno, and solve the really problem that: people want to use a computer that can connect to the internet.
My current suggestion: offer free replacement while you guys continue work hard to solve the problem.
Otherwise we'll all just spread around this news and I assume Acer should be well prepared to hire a new marketing director to rebuild your reputation and goodwill....

Sony is now jumping into this segment of the market with their new VAIO FLIP series. Those laptops should be coming out in a few weeks. Such a shame Acer has missed the market on this when they had it 6 months ago.
I have offered to Acer for the past 4 months to gladly pay full retail price for a laptop that works. All they have given is promises, but never anything to assure me it would work.
I have been in a number of Best Buy stores where they have no idea of this issue and even no idea of the size of the box this laptop comes in. They really do not know there.
So now I suggest to anyone and everyone reading this to find the address or email for Best Buy and write to them. They do not want products that do not work. Reference in that the fact that now they have a lot of Open Box inventory on this item. Simply put, if it worked, no one would be returning it.
Acer has a very small window before Black Friday to bring out a working R7 model. After that Sony will be taking up all of the market share for the convertibles like the R7.
ANd like everyone else I feel it is a shame, since this laptop is designed very well. I don't know where I would want the touch part, but definitely like the keyboard where they put it.

i just installed my Aetheros card out of my 2 yr old (crashed) HP pavilion laptop. Now we are back up to good speed(:
also installed a 4gig ram stick from that laptop and now have 8gb ram ![]()

Do all of you wonder where those returned lappies go...wonder no more! As part of the Emachine Floppy Drive Class Action Claim I received a voucher for $365. The claim is site maintained by Secondipity only has refurbs, though I read the settlement and there are supposed to be a good supply that consists of new and refurbs, most offering are below the voucher price and who wants to waste their claim on something less than $365.
I grabbed the Aspire R7 and paid the difference. Refurbing means nothing, nada. I have the exact wifi problem with the Broadcomm chip. I tested it against my 4 yr old HP: 23 vs. .05 Mbps. When I called support she refused to deal with me until I called comcast and have comcast test my connection. I tried to explain the connection and signal strength were identical with both laptops, and then hung up in utter frustration. How can you possibly deal with people like that?
And so I wait, with only a 90 day warranty.
