Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

R7 has a great design concept and terrible wifi execution.  Bought last Tuesday it was returned to BB yesterday.  This after many calls to Acer and to BB, misinformation and lack of information: BB sold me a thunderbolt/ethernet adapter that Acer later told me does not work, needs a (slower) USB/ethernet adapter from the Acer store. Acer could not give any assurance that a particular production run would have relaiable wifi.  This after well-publicised issues.

Acer should pull all unsold inventory and get this right to save their reputation.  BB likewise.

Meanwhile Windows 8 is another work in process from Microsoft to be tested on its paying customers.  IMO Outlook in Office 365 is a backward step from 2007 with which I have been very happy.

Conclusion: after returning the R7 and 20+ years in a Microsoft world I bought an Mac Air 13" yesterday.  This led to a very weird sense of desertion and despair. The Apple Store allayed my migration and inter-operabilty issues. 14 day return to prove this out. I want dependable fast connectivity, no more auto reboots or crashes and viruses.

Side-note: Apple Store full and high energy yet still they can find someone to assist. Downstairs Microsoft Store eerily empty, pleasant staff trying very hard, even offering drinks.  Evidently, too much interaction around settings, conflicts, fixes.  Interesting times in tech world.

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Ok, I just bit the bullet and ordered an intel AC-7260.
We'll see if it solves my issues.
I am hopefull that the USB nano wifi adapter I am using just isnt strong enough to overcome the interference issues without locating it away from the laptop and the intel card will do a better job at this.

I will certainly respond here with my results. Most likely it will be the middle of next week when I get it.

Also, I have noticed another issue lately... I have larger hands, and if I hit the bottom edge of the space bar it does not register. I am used to a microsoft natural keyboard which put my hands at more of an angle making the space bar more accessable with my longer fingers, so my thumbs naturally want to hit the bottom edge of the space bar. It seems that if I am mindful of this issue I compensate bringing my thumbs slightly forward, and I am sure I will get used to it, but it is difficult adjusting to this. Typically using a regular keyboard does not cause my much trouble, but this one just refuses to react if the bottom edge of the space bar is tapped. (it "feels" normal enough, just doesnt recognize the keystroke")

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

[ Editado ]

By this time we all know the wifi sucks on these machines, but I'm still in love with the design - I'm following Taminrob advise and upgrading to better wifi card, memory etc..

I understand the concept if I buy it new everything should work - I'm just saying, sometimes you have to find a work-around for something as sexy as this laptop - I got a new Netgear AC1900 router, 8gb memory, and just waiting on the wifi card before I go in... (opening up the back which will also be an adventure).

In the meantime, my workaround is netgear ethernet switch and this ethernet usb adapter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AQM8586/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - getting speeds 36 mbpps download 11.46 upload..  Works for now..

I just can't return a porche because of a scratch...  (I do not have a porche..!!  I'm just saying...)  Hope this helped somebody...

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

i just bought this computer, and i love everything except for the wifi. the only thing worse than the wifi is acers customer service. the representatives you get in level II of chat are a complete joke. I talked to Karen C. and she actually disconnected the chat before I was finished. I provided them with 2 different credit card numbers for the advance exchange and neither would work for their system. I finally called in and after enough complaining they told me they would send me out a prepaid shipping label to send my computer back, so that once my computer is recieved they will ship a new one out.

I am worried that I will not get a new one in any kind of timely manner if i send it in. Their customer service department is the worst i've ever had the misfortune of dealing with.

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Taminrob - Where did you purchase your card from?  I can't find it anywhere - Amazon was suppose to release it on the 17th.  Instead of shipping on the 17th, they sent me an email saying they can't locate it, and gave me a new ship date in Nov.  When I search the site for other sellers I see it being sold by Intel, but will not be release until Oct 20th...  Thanks for any info..
