I did try that and still couldnt get a reliable connection.
I disabled in device manager. I looked through the bios but couldnt find any way to disable it there.

How did you go about disabling it? Is there something in the bios I am missing?
I had the feeling the bluetooth was part of the issue, but disabling it in the device manager did nothing to help the situation, I'm thinking it still has power but just isnt being seen by windows when disabled in the task manager...???

Right now I am in a hotel and I'm having to use a 6' long extension cable with a USB wifi adapter to get a good connection.

I'm talking about a difference between <100kbps (with constant droputs) and a stable 5mbps (likely the max the hotel provides) I looked pretty silly in the airport with this nice looking laptop and my usb cord sitting on the back of the seat next to me!

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Thanks Taminrob for your input - I follow you.  Can you give the exact wireless card model and specs you brought - I see various flavors - I want to make sure I get this right - I only want to do this once...  Thanks again

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Fadil13...this is the card that I am using...http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/dual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth.html.  Not the only card out there, but as I mentioned in a previous post, I was looking for the latest and greatest (in my opinion) and thats what I came up with.  Should you choose another card, keep in mind that this laptop only has 2 antenna wires so make sure that whatever card you choose only has 2 as well.  Also, still no Bluetooth (working on that) so you may want to look at Broadcom cards if that is important to you (those SHOULD have bluetooth working out of the box since Broadcom is the stock card).

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Hello all R7 owners,

I was really hesitant (due to wifi issues here) but I finally got my R7 few days ago, it has a snid of 330xxxx, and a Broadcam wifi n adapter.

However, the wifi performance has been PHENOMENAL so far! It is way better than HP Envy x2, and on par or even better than Dell inspiron n5010 and Asus.

I use a D-link 636L router, and use only b/g bands (NO n band due to compability issues with old laptops).

My ISP is 15 mbps download speed, I easily get 14-15 on the Aspre R7 and a full signal bar! not a single dropped connection! Moreover, I live in a condo, so there are really a lot of signals and routers transmitting at the same time!

I absolutely love this device! I really think that this is the most innovative product in laptop category for the past years! THIS THING IS A PIECE OF BEAUTY!

I just wish the fan noise was lower and that it had an SSD (annoying HDD noise).

I hope you will find solutions for the wifi issues guys so you can enjoy the real beauty of this thing! I replied here just to try to help you guys with finding an explanation to your problems.

Any questions guys?

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

I have a R7 I bought at BestBuy 8-18-2013 for my daughter. She has been complaining about how slow it is. I finally got to look at it last night. I was getting a 5Mb connection when in another room from my router. I put a USB dlink N adapter on it in the same location and got 100+ Mb . The laptop has a manufacture date of 5/24/2013.

Just got off the phone with support. They do  not stock laptops but are going to order a brand new laptop from ??? and do a swap. They said they would call me back with the swap info tonight or tomorrow.  :manhappy:

I'll post back when I get new machine with how the connection is.

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

I do not post, ever, but am moved to on this occasion.

R7 ought last Tuesday was returned to BB Hartsdale, NY yesterday. I bought aware there had been wifi issues but was drwan by the form factor and assumed that this was later production.  Bad assumption. At home no issues on day 1, all very smooth in fact. At the office day 2 no ability to connect to the wifi.

At home day 3 wifi OK via browser but slow, no access at all to other apps like weather, bing and Netflix. "No internet connection" message.

Call 1 to Acer - "go buy an adapter so you can connect to the ethernet then call back". Irritating but led me to think there was a fix...

Waited 45 minutes at BB, Union Sq for an adapter and sold the only one they could find, thunderbolt. No luck connecting at the office on 2 hot cables.

Call 2 to Acer, escalated to level II, 90 minutes, to be told that the thunderbolt does not work to ethernet on R7, need an Acer store USB-ethernet adapter. Offer to replace the m/c but that would take a week at least and lose any BB 14 day return cover.

Call 3 to Acer - they could not assure replacement with a late production fully-functioning wireless adaptor.

BB did not return call after my suggestion they source a late production run replacement. (Mine turned out to be a May 5 model according to Acer, BB did not have that info).

Conclusion: Acer is not listening and acting to maintain trust and goodwill. These models should be recalled and fixed. Acer has an innovative convertible design that out of all that is out there hit most of my marks - tablet and full keyboard. Solid wifi, multi-tasking and fast response are critical.

A dependable Haswell in 13" would be attractive - lighter and faster and longer batter life.

Other: Win 8 is a work in process but has great potential.  Office 365's Outlook is NOT as good as 2007 IMO.

PS: after 20+ years in a microsoft world I bought a Macbook Air 13".  Apple Store allayed my migration concerns and has 14 day return policy.  I feel sad, thrown by this, and have misgivings but while Microsoft continues to test betas on its users and manufacturers launch sloppy products they will encourage such switching.

Acer - Where is your Quality Control? Where is your PR department?

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

[ Editado ]

To their credit, they have kept this thread up so that those who do the research can stay away from this model. But it seems like a moth to a flame more and more people buy it thinking they can fix it. I have no reason to talk, as I did the same thing.

Went to Best Buy yesterday and asked for a model with SSID > 330. Was given an entirely different model from the sales person. When I commented the box was too small to be the correct model, he looked perplexed. Then he found the right boxes with SSID 224, which I turned down.

There are literally thousands of these bad machines out there. They have everything from display issues to power issues to WIFI issues. To say there was no quality control in the process is pretty much saying water is wet.

As I recommend machines for a large company I had hoped Acer would improve their "DONT BUY" rating. Unfortunately they have not.

Do your research and if you see many posts with the same issue and the company not resolving it quickly you will know what NOT to buy.
