Like True Blue says this part of the market is filled with problems. I would wait until the next R7 with Pen input comes out and see if there are problems.
If you cannot wait, then your choices are limited. the Dell model is more expensive and inferior. The yoga has horrible reviews. This is why so many people are still buying the R7. It actually would be the best selling laptop on the Market if it was designed right and had positive reviews.
Heck, if it was an Apple, it would be the best thing since sliced bread.
You have a tough choice, good luck!

TrueBlue7_77 njcurveball Thanks guys for replies. Totally agree that other convertible aren't that great either. Yoga and xps looks pretty dull(despite of having HD screen), also not enough ports.
I will just try different stuff for couple of weeks to see if anything works - wifi usb adapter or will talk to acer help desk, installing latest drivers(if any). If it doesn't fixes then i will return it before 15 days warranty of best buy expires.
Man this would've been an amazing buy if only wifi would've worked fine.
Now I am telling my friends to not buy this after already presenting this as "oh look how cool my new laptop is".

Brand New Aspire R7 from Best Buy. Same problem. Sitting next to the router...15Mbps. 30 feet away - less than 1 Mbps. At this same location (30 feet away) my Samsung Ultrabook is getting 14-15 Mbps. If you think I'm reading 15 pages of problems with no resolution- Acer, you're nuts. I'm already restoring to factory and the unit goes back tomorrow. Oh yeah...and when the wifi didn't work - I tried to plug it in. Whoops! No ethernet port? Wow what a mistake this purchase was! You just landed in the Dell pile as far as I'm concerned.

I am having the same problem. Just spent an hour and a half on the phone with my Internet company only to have Internet work when I was 1 foot away, thinking the problem had been solved I hung up...oh I need to mention that I was on hold for 30 min first! So I have a presentation due tomorrow and can't even get back online!!!! I'm taking this back tomorrow especially after reading all of these posts! Thanks for sharing

There is a fix trueblue. It is when they replace the cheap memory they put in and the cheap antenna and the other cheap parts which they sent to production with this machine.
I am glad you are happy now, but these problems are DAY 1. I hope you do not think these are the only parts where they tried to save money. Other problems will crop up in the future. So when your hard drive crashes or your battery does not charge or your touch screen goes bad, come back here and let us know, ok?

Brought mine back today. no SNID's of 330 or better in either local BB, so waiting a few weeks and trying again. Why? Because after living with it for a week, this thing ROCKs - except for the wireless issue, and ours worked pretty well one floor away. But at the end of the house where the other laptop did get 15-20 Mbps, the R7 frequently dropped to 1 Mbps. My previoius chart was a fluke, apparently, because the more we used it the worse it got at distance.
Other than that, though, there is NO better touchscreen laptop out there, IMO. Use the touchscreen for 90% of the things you need, and the VERY minor inconveninece of the mousepad location is immaterial. Really.
Acer - my daughter has a 2 year old timelineX that still works great. You hit the nail on the head with that series. Now please fix this R7 and you would OWN the convertible market.

I can purchase a refurbished R7 from Acer and I was wondering if anyone thinks this would have been fixed in a refurbished machine?

Hi all,
I've posted this before but will post it again in case someone missed it. I was having the wifi issue as well until I changed my wireless router settings to "Wireless Network (5GHz a/n)" from "Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n)."
I see a lot are posting about buying an external wifi card, but why not just upgrade to a later model router? If you have the latest in laptop technology then wouldn't it make sense to have the latest wireless router?
Obviously Acer should rectify the problem, but I like the laptop too much to fuss with it. You can even purchase a refurbised router from Best Buy for $39.95 ... the link below shows the exact router I have that works with my R7 perfectly. If it doesn't work then just return the router back to Best Buy.
I use my laptop about 99% of the time at home, so going to another location that doesn't have a dual band router isn't really an issue for me.

I wanted to give you guys an update.
I received a new acer r7 SNID 320xxxx from acer that has a blue dot on the side of the packaging and currently the wifi is working. Now I am watching it very closely because on my original machine from best buy SNID 319xxxx the wifi worked out of the box as well and evenutally got worse and worse until it was no longer able to get any wifi signal at all.
There was twice since I have had the new one where I lost my internet connection and had to run the built in troubleshooting and the problem resolved. I have no idea if this was a problem with the wifi card or the internet I was on at the time.
I will try and keep everyone updated.
