Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Update Acer_Corey got a level 2 tech support to call me back (within the hour). He confirmed it is a known hardware problem with the wifi and they are 100% sure they know how to fix it.

I was offered the RMA swap where they will send me a new unit and I send the old one back in the same shipping box (with a credit card number as deposit) this is a 1-2 day process compared to 7-10 days which suits me.

I will not be without a laptop at the expense of having to set my new one up to my configuration again.

The problem with the wifi is of course disappointing but I am impressed with the prompt way that Acer are addressing the issue. Of course I don't know yet that my new unit will work - I will send feedback when I get it.

Thanks so far though Acer and Acer-Corey

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Mine IS NOT a refurb unit...I was told it's new...they only removed it from the box to verify correct operation.  Just want people to know that refurbs aren't going to everyone.

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

hello everyone,

I posted last week about having one of these on the way. I just received mine and I am having the wifi issues when I am far from the router. Messaged the rep thats monitering the forums but he hasn't replied yet. Kind of disheartened but was almost expecting this to happen.

Didnt buy a wifi adapter from best buy because I ran a speed test when I was there on their model and it was fine! So I was just assuming the problem had been addressed. Wrong assumption.

Not sure what to do next.

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

OK, this laptop looks cool and I am interested in getting one, but I assume if I buy one new from best buy that I am going to get one with the wifi issue as they all seem to have the issue, right?  I am looking for a laptop to travel with for work and will be on wifi all the time.  I can get any laptop I want with a large budget.  I like this but may just go with macbook, which is guaranteed to work.  this will be easier to work with on a plane, but I dont want wifi issues.  Any hope or suggestions?

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

The issue I'm having is that at work I get 55/65mbs but at home the network adapter can not get much better than 5/7 at distances greater than 15 ft from the adapter.  I have FIOS and a very strong whole house signal with well over 50mps upload.  This tells me it's a signal issue with the adapter itself.  Wireless cards on my other computers are able to get around 40/45 at the same distance.

I attempted to try to revert to the Windows 7 driver.  Version 5.100.82.112.  This got me an extra 2mbs.  This may work better for those with intermitent connection issues.

Something tells me this will never be fixed as it's likely a hardware issue.  I REALLY do not want to go through the hassel of returing this PC to bestbuy over this but to put out an ultrabook with no ethernet port and such weak wifi is an obvious design flaw.  One would expect this to be a priority fix by acer, but for it to be a known issue for this long without a solution, shows it is not.

I might just spend the extra money on a network card for when at home but since the computer itself makes a wireless mouse necessary (the location of the track pad) I'm quickly running out of usb ports (yes I know I can get a bluetooth mouse)....

Even if I don't return this computer I will likely never buy Acer again.  I thought HP and Dell were bad but to skimp on such an essential component shows Acer is just not ready to play with the big boys.

Re: Poor Wifi on new Aspire R7

Grab this one

If you want an inexpensive PC  that almost works

Picked up mine for  800

and dont mind using WIFI with an USB adaptor

It is also somewhat underpowered with a dual core i 5 chip

and the graphic chip is minumum at 128

This is not a gaming pc  device

charm games work like a charm

Acer is known for making adequate inexpensive computers

This was there first shot at a well made pc at a great price

They did a good job but missed the mark

I am ok with this because it does what i need

I also have a 2000 dollar Imac

By the way Cory   That was an arrogant answer

Cant you give us an honest straight answer\Is it that hard to admit there is a problem

Everyone of these has the same issues

This is not  not just a few

Is The FTC the answer or consumer protection?

I already contacted acer and its team as everyone else did here

We all get the run around  and therer is no fix

and the new PCs are coming out the same

Great little device with issues

If you can live with issues  Great bang for the buck

If not get a mac

o Acer whats qwrong with these PCs\

Your tech team doesnt know either

Been there done that

This is a spiffy little thingee though

When is the next one comin over the mountain
