Hi guys thought it was time for an update. i got my sweet little dual band wireless adapter as promised about 10 days ago..
it took a while to get here from the US.
so here is the test results.
i was getting anything between 3-6 mb/s on download and upload before in a big open space with industrail boosters, its in a hotel so big boosters all over the place.
now im getting 15-20 mb/s on upload and downloads... 2.4ghz.
so im guessing thats a good result.
in the home i was getting nothing off the router unles there was no walls between us, 2-4mb/s up if i go to any place in the house with any walls on the way then its less 1mb/s while my iphone 4s would get over 10mb/s.
also i managed to upgrade my HD to an SSD drive!! i had never opened a laptop before.. was really worried but the samsung ssd 840 pro is amazing, now im getting 6 hours 30 min battery life before it was 4 hours and 30 mins.
if anybody knows how i can get my dualband adapter to test with 5ghz let me know, i have no idea how to do it, can give you results if someone tells me how to do it.
thanks all for your help before
p.s i love my R7 with ssd, 12gb ram upgrade later this week :-)

If you´re not only interested in having a working WiFi adapter but also having the best: Found this interesting review on amazon. This compares an adapter with 2 big antennas with a USB stick: Quote (http://www.amazon.com/Amped-Wireless-Power-Adapter
"This thing doesn't work better than N only AE3000 from my room. AE3000 has 3 internal antennas (this has 2) and despite being N only, if you are a couple of rooms farther away from the router, the 5G (n) connection on AE3000 is more consistent (always stays at 450 mbits). This one was more like 200 mbits. Occasionally I would see 585mbits for a second but 90% of the time it would stay around 200 mbits.
Perhaps if you are very close to the router this will be faster, being AC and USB 3.0, but I am two rooms down (around 30 feet with a couple of walls).
I have tried many of these USB AC adapters, and honestly none of them performed better than N-Only AE3000 in my room
The only AC adapter that consistently and reliably gave me better connection was PCI Express(3 antenna) ASUS PCE-AC66. That thing was rock solid and always stayed over 700 mbits (sometimes 800 mbits) from my room.
I am giving it 2 stars because the cheaper AC and USB 3.0 (EW-7822UAC) performed better than this, but none of them were worth the money, really. Just get a refurbished AE3000 (very solid on 5G) or get ASUS PCE-AC66 if your computer has PCI Express slot."
In specifications (http://store.linksys.com/Adapters/Linksys-AE3000-W
So is there something like ASUS PCE-AC66 similar as internal compatible with Aspire R7 ??? Fx is this one compatible ???
Is the connector in Aspire R7: HMC or M2 ?
The internal Broadcom WiFi adapter in Aspire R7 only has 1 antenna for upload and download with the partnumbers "50.M9UN2.004 ANTENNA.WLAN.MAIN" and "50.M9UN2.005 ANTENNA.WLAN.AUX" that must be poor ... Wonder whether they are dual-band and whether the Intel 7260 AC can use the same?

Hi guys,
I'm fascinated by this device and was planning to buy it, though I'm pretty disappointed on the wifi issues reported. I've read the whole thread and I've noticed that many of you bought this from best buy or somewhere in US.
Is there the same problem on the Europe version for R7?
Thanks!

Hello everyone! I'm just joining the discussion now, though I've been following it since the beginning. I too own an Acer Aspire R7 and I have the same WIFI problem. I got it as a present from my uncle who lives in the US, so it was bought there. However, I live in Romania. I've been saying posts that say I should contact the tech support and service to have it replaced/fix. It has an international warranty, so would they replace/fix it? The thing is, a few days after it arrived, I've had to send it to them to fix it, some connections were loose inside and whenever I would drag the screen in to cover the trackpad, it would shut down or appear as if the battery is disconnected. That issue was fixed by the service free of charge, under the warranty.
But would they replace/fix the WIFI issue if I would send it to them again? If anyone at Acer could let me know, that would be great, thanks.

Just ordered the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 Plus Bluetooth*
According to eBay the BCM43228 in this Aspire R7 looks like this: http://thumbs3.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mjzIQJvvbjH
And the 7260 use two antennas like the Broadcom, so when swapped, it should work with the same antennas. The 7260 could be ordered in two different sizes. Haven´t seen the inside of the Aspire R7 but guess it´s as the picture of it. So sizes should match.
When it arrives in a week or two, will bring it all to a local Acer repair shop in the city and get them to swap it. Guess it should take about 2 weeks before being able to test it.
