Hey all, there is a new BIOS v2.08 available for download (Acer BIOS 2.08 - 3.9 MB - 2013/08/12)
There must be some important reason for it (maybe WiFi related - haven´t tried it)

@Twelvetone - I'm glad you're happy with the R7 you've received and we do appreciate the time you've taken to post here. I look forward to more of your followups.

The new BIOS has been out there for some time. II was told by level 2 tech support that this had nothing to do with wifi and that if I wasn't having any othet
problems not to even download the new BIOS.
lynchps - I can confirm that the BIOS update update 2.08 does not include any enchancements or updates to the wifi issues experienced in this thread. I agree with the general statement provided by Level 2 just due to the fact that while BIOS updates are vastly improved in their execution, there is always that super extreme case where it could fail and brick the system requiring our repair center to address (which your warranty covers, and we'd happily take care of it did occur). It ultimately comes down to a case of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.
From my research I was able to learn that this BIOS update has a couple fixes and the main updates are for a potential hang on post related to the USB and an update to the Secure Boot

Thanks Cory for the Bios update. Can you get any additional details on the work that was done on the R7 that was sent in and successfully repaired? I'm sure you and Acer won't say something that would force a massive announcement or recall and force tgr cost involved with fix this when the over majority of buyers would just deal with it or never notice since Facebook loads from the slowest connection. Can you offer some acknowledgment at least that something material is being done that fixes this issue for the users who want to send their units in for repair.
Also if someone takes their PC back to best buy and best buy sends it for repairs are they fixing them in house or are they sending them in to Acer? I ask because best buy doesn't charge for shipping and have a very nice online tracking system so you know where your PC is. Also if it gets lost in the mail or damaged they will cover it.
I do not have any details on what they're doing in the repair centers or how to fix this the wireless connectivity issues discussed here. I do know that our service teams are preprared at this time, and Acer is committed to quickly resolving this issue moving forward. I expressed that in this post. TwelveTone took me up on this and called, the local US service team offered to replace the unit, he was not required to send his unit to our repair center. The team here helped me identify his case and I've been following along. I realize that he's doing some additional testing, but it sounds like he's pretty happy with the solution provided. If he has an issue we'll be here to help him out.
At this point, I've shared a solution, and that is to contact your local Acer Support team. If you contact them now and have complaints about the service provided, I'll feed that back to those teams and I'll work with individuals as I can to ensure they're taken care of, but that won't happen until you engage with our support teams. qxlb3r summed it up pretty well. If there is a solution that becomes available that would allow users to do themselves without contacting us or requiring additional support, we'd provide it...quickly. I just don't know if or when that will be available, and we were not willing to wait for that either.

I posted here a week or two ago with the same issues. I just returned the original laptop and bought another R7 replacement. It also has the same problem, but not exactly the same, and the difference could be informative, hoping the info will help someone.
The new laptop performs slightly better. I had the two side by side at one moment because I had 7 days to ship the old one back. At work, the old one didn't detect the main networks here at all - the new one sometimes detected them and sometimes didn't, and sometimes managed to get a weak signal. Also at home, the new one worked (weakly) in rooms where the old one didn't work at all. When I stick in the Belkin N300 USB adapter, it still improves the performance greatly, but clearly there is a hardware issue where slight differences in something cause the performance to vary from one machine to another.

aacohen,
Contact Acer support as noted elsewhere in this thread several times. They'll give you the option of sending you a fixed one, upon receipt of which you send the failing one back, or of being without a laptop for a while, by sending this one in for repairs.
Please report back and let us know how it went, whichever you choose.

I haven't bought an R7 yet, but I've been following this thread hoping to see when/if the wifi problems get suitably fixed before getting one. This will be my first windows computer since the 90s and I can't waste that 14 day return period on getting something as simple as wifi working when I should be concerned with migrating OS's.

Hello,
I would simply like to say that I have been following this thread for a while now, including before I purchased my Acer Aspire R7. Today I finally went and picked it up at the store, brought it home, turned it on, and proceeded to have all the same troubles that everyone else has been having. I tried updating drivers etc etc and of course none of it helped. However I will be returning and replacing my R7 tomorrow, and if my replacement has a functional wifi card then I will be sure to let everyone know that it is not a problem with every R7. However, if I have to exchange it one more time after the 2nd replacement, I will by that point have given up hope entirely and will purchase a difference computer.
Either way, I will keep you all posted on the turnout!
