Has nothing to do with the provider, not after it passes through a router. Comcast may be the service provider, but they provide service to you (usually) through a modem, which you would then join to a router that serves all other devices. The laptop is not connecting to Comcast, and I doubt that you're connecting to a modem directly. If it works for you at work you should try and find out anything you can about the wireless settings they're using. That way you can apply the same settings to your router at home and you should see an improvement.
If you do get the information please post it here. My guess is that you're using a 2.4 ghz connection at home and a 5.0 at work. Seems to be the only thing that improves connectivity, at least according to this thread.

I'll try to get the settings next time I'm in the office. In the meantime, I bought a network adapter dongle and disabled the Acer's onboard wireless card. The new adapter increased the download speed about 20x--from roughly 0.6 mbps to 10.5 mbps.

Hey all. I recieved a solution to this problem today. Here's what you'll have to do.
Email support and ask to update you're internet driver. It takes a little while to download, but once you've done so you can run the program as the administrator and re-boot the computer. The internet works amazing once this is done.

How do you do this?

I think most of us were told by acer phone support (in India) to update or reinstall the wifi adapter driver and this did not work for any of us. Is there something specific that they have to email us to download the Internet driver? So the internet driver is not on Acer's website? Where is its download source? Is it as simple as just emailing support? So many questions. Could you please be as specific as you can with the complete process so we can all try to apply the fix. Thank you.

I e-mailed Acer tech support and actually received a fairly quick response. Basically it was download the driver off of the Acer support web site and reinstall. It actually made my connections even slower. Very disappointed again. THIS IS NOT THE FIX.

Please refer to my previous post. Running the program as an administrator allows it to make changes that it may have otherwise not been able to. Just because you tried it before doesn't mean it won't work as an admin.

Found all the problems you described here also on my new R7. But I can add a new aspect: I installed Linux on it, which uses a proprietary Broadcom Linux driver for the wireless card for the BCM43228 chipset. The result was the same poor behavior as the Windows version shows. Exactly the same thing! Signal is not only low but signal strength is varying a lot. My conclusion for this behavior (and the better performance of the 5GHz is another indication) is an interference with a source of noise inside the device, what (if it is really true) could never be solved with a new software! That's why, I'm afraid, we are far away from getting a workable solution, since the bug seems to lie deep inside. Using the 5GHz band or a wifi extender is only a solution for people using the laptop at home, what you are doing if you are on travel? Not acceptable at all! This thing is going back forever! And I suggest to everybody to do it the same way and buying something else.

Clearly a software fix has worked for someone, so why not try out their method of installing. Worst case scenario you're in the same situation as you were in at the start.
