I have a Gateway M500, it powers on, but screen does not display, what seems to be my problem?

Not sure how I got in Acer when I went through Gateway Support, but maybe someone can help me here. I have a Gateway M500 Laptop that powers on but does not display anything on the screen. I can hear the tone when Windows begins. I even tried tapping F8 when starting up and nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem is??????

    Have you tried connecting to an external monitor, has there possibly been damage to the screen or at the hinge/screen level could there be loosening of the connection between screen and unit?

     

    Do you  have any power problems?
