How can I find out if my touchpad is Elan or Synaptic on my Aspire V3-571G?

I need to download the touchpad driver for my new Aspire V3-571G notebook. I do however not know if it is a synaptic or elan touchpad and hence do not know which driver to download.

The reason for needing to download the driver is the tapping sensitivity of the touchpad. I keep opening things I didn't mean to and highlighting pages, when all I actually wanted to do was move the cursor.

Open 'Device Manager' and select 'Mice and other pointing devices'.

In my case (Win7) it shows 'ELAN PS/2 Port Smart-Pad'.

I suspect, in the case of Synaptic it will show 'Synaptic' something or other.

I tried that and all it shows me is PS/2 Compatible Mouse? If I just took a guess and download one of the drivers, will it tell me if I downloaded the wrong software? Thanks for the response by the way.

Ok, so you don't currently have a driver installed.

    Download the hardware detection program:
