Gateway DX4820-01 CPU fan problem after BIOS upgrade

On a Gateway DX4820-01 desktop I upgraded the BIOS to P01.A3L which I downloaded from here:

http://support.gateway.com/product/default.aspx?modelId=2290

Now the CPU fan spins at max speed (4200+ RPM) all the time.

Smart Fan is enabled in the PC Health setup screen... I have disabled, power cycled, enabled Smart Fan but it has not helped.

Going back to the P01.A1 BIOS (what I previously had) does not fix the fan issue either.

It seems I have solved this issue!

I used the "Load Default Settings" from the main setup screen and now the CPU fan spins at 1000+ RPM.

One thing I noticed in the PC Health screen was the CPU temperature (PECI Mode) was at 70+ before I loaded defaults now it's at 29.

I feel a little silly that I did not try that sooner but I guess I assumed that all the setttings would be at default after flashing the BIOS... oh, well, you know what they say about assuming Smiley Happy

I believe that this is a great reminder to all of us that trying the 'obvious' things first sometimes works best.

After flashing the BIOS, always reset defaults.

Thanks for sharing that you solved it, FrizzleFry.
