my dvd on my ACER Aspire X1200 is not reading the disk. I can open and insert and close the DVDE player. But it is not recognized and there is no blue light on the side indicating it is on. What can I do to get it operating again?

Is the drive seen in Device Manager?

I have the same problem. The drive is there in device manager. I did a system restore from the disks and had no issues. As soon as Vista loaded, the drive will no longer read a disk. Tried in Safe Mode as well. No luck. Tried uninstalling the drive from the device manager (in safe mode) and reboot. It reinstalled the driver, but still no luck. It will spin up when you insert a disk, but will not autorun. Also if I click on the drive under computer, it sits and tries to access the drive. If I eject the disk, it asks for a disk to be inserted, I do that and it still will just sit there searching. I have tried numerous disks, CD's, DVD's, install disks and burned disks. No luck.

Jackers, I believe that your issue is a different issue entirely.

Autorun was disabled in a Windows Update as of Feb. 8, 2011.
