Well at long last I think that my problem has been resolved. The Acer v3-571 laptop uses the 802.11n networking standard and my router, which is several years old, uses the older 802.11g networking standard. I have replaced the router with the latest 802.11n model and my Acer has now been happily connected for over 12 hours.
I came across this by accident but if you are still having problems make sure that you have the latest driver and a 802.11n router. I hope that this may also be a solution for others.

I've spent hours browsing for a solution but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a clear cut answer?

Recently, i've also been having the same issue. I bought an Acer V3-571G back in May, and already it has started playing up big time. The fan keeps making loud clunking noises (It sounds a bit like a camera shutter), and yesterday, a new issue has developed. Every time the fan starts up it makes a huge racket, which sounded as if a wire hanging down was touching the blades. If you put your fingernail against a rotating fan and apply pressue, that's what it sounded like. A constant and rapid knocking noise. If i shake the laptop upside-down before use, it doesn't do it.
But the biggest issue is the WiFi. It disconnects at random intervals, on any connection that i use. Sometimes the Wireless icon in the taskbar will show a caution symbol, with the words 'No internet access', and other times it will continue to show the standard icon suggesting that everything is okay.
If i click the icon and disconnect, then reconnect, it starts working again. Also, if i keep the connection active by downloading something, the internet will not disconnect. It only goes when it's idle. The power saving box in settings is unticked, so i don't understand it.
There are lots of suggestions on here, but i don't know which ones will actually work. I've updated the driver with no luck. Someone said about getting a 802.11n router, but i don't want to buy one and then discover it doesn't work!
I think it's terrible how Acer will not look at the problem, or even discuss it with us.
I've spent £550 on a laptop which doesn't work.
Please, someone help.

RobTVR,
I can confirm, that changing the router to WLAN 802.11 n really worked for me. I wrote about my experience in "Acer wifi limited connectivity issue". Maybe you can try asking for some friends that have wifi with this standard to connect at their place befor taking the decision to buy a new router?
Of course, I think that it is Acers wifi driver problem, check for newest updates - keep in mind, that after you updated the drivers using update tool, you have to check for updates once again, some new updates may show up and you'll have to update your drivers once again. Think that Acer have identified this problem and it may be that you'll find the driver update that will solve the problem (I did't updated drivers as I found the solution with my new router).
