Hi,
the HDD is constantly grinding on this new machine, especially at startup. I've disabled unnecessary startup items, ran chkdsk to no avail. When I view disk activity in the Resource Monitor, c:\pagefile.sys was constantly being accessed so I disabled the page file. Same problem but just with different files (e.g. c:\$LogFile).
The BIOS and drivers are all up-to-date. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can try or what it might be? I really don't want to do a fresh install, especially as there's a good chance it won't address the problem.
Many thanks,
Peter

Good day Peter
Windows disk check is not always accurate even though it should be. I suggest you rather do a HDD test using seatools:

Hi,
the "generic" tests have come up clean. If I select the "Advanced" test, I get the below warning. Am I OK to proceed?
Pete
The Advanced Tests menu has options that could erase your data or make the drive unusable for your system. If you continue you could lose data.
