Unable to boot up in safe mode, hangs @ agpCPQ.sys. On a acer one w/t XP hm ed. Help pls

if you cannot boot into safe mode,then try to reload the machine to factory settings. Normally the fault is caused by the OS itself or faulty HDD.

My son's laptop is in the same boat.  Won't booot to Windows.  Tried doing reset to factory default, gets to about 35% and stops.  I installed Linux which works, but he really needs Windows.  He's got an Aspire 5532.  I hate to spend $100 for an OS for a $300 laptop.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
