Trying to install in my emachines 1810. How do I remove the back protection plate?

I believe that you remove the side panel for this unit to access the inside, not the rear. As you are looking at the front of the unit, it would be the right panel that would need to be removed. There should be two screws that need to be removed to take it off located on the rear of the unit, and it should slide off towards the rear to be removed.
