Acer have clearly stated that there is a bios update in the works they said it would be out a couple weeks ago and fixes a number of issues...... Actually.
As for the throttling my I3 cpu works exactly as Intel designed it. The gpu however doesn't and throttles for no reason. This can be fixed with a bios and driver update just like microoft has done on the surface pro.
The I5 goes into low power mode to easily and performs more like my I3 which I got for a good £200 less. I think they should address it properly and try to resolve the issue instead of pretending it doesn't exist.
Generally I have no gripes with my w700 (apart from the camera) it works perfectly and makes ipads etc look rubbish.
I just wish acer would be more proactive with improving the device like trying to address this issue.

Yes, there is going to be a BIOS update. It is going to fix some issues. It will not fix this issue. How do I know? ACER has already come intot this thread and said this is not an issue. Since it's not an issue, and the device is working as intended, this behaviour isn't something they are TRYING to fix. No engineer is working on it. So it will not be in the BIOS update.
Even worse than that, see the checkmark in the title of the thread? ACER has marked this issue as SOLVED, meaning they believe it's already fixed (working as intended).

Hi Acer,
If the "throttling" can't be stopped on w700, maybe you can make like Microsoft for the surface pro:
__________________________________________________
"Microsoft released a firmware update for the Surface Pro yesterday that completely changes the way they handle the GPU clocks and supplied power to the GPU. I've tested multiple games with no issues at all logging an average of 750mhz - 800mhz on the GPU core while playing Crysis 3 for 30 minutes straight and also Battlefield 3 for 30 minutes straight.
The GPU changes clocks much more dynamically, even to the point of changing clocks every second! I've went through all my logs from last night and noted most of the time I saw between 650mhz - 1050mhz in this full hour of gaming. I did have instances where it hit 350mhz but only for 1 second, it would stair step down 650-450-350-500-700-850 and back up along those lines.
I also noticed the GPU is given a constant / average 5 watts of power, it fluctuates to 3.5ish on the low end (350mhz) and 6.9ish on the high end (1050mhz) compared to the sudden anemic power of the pawellst (2.4 for 30-45 seconds). Power fluctuates in stair steps alongside the clock speeds to give a much more consistent experience.
Bravo to Microsoft for listening to the 20 of us making a stink about this, good to see they really are paying attention."

"balance the TDP between the CPU / GPU evenly under full load on both devices"

The games experience would be better for us with a similary power plan.
Thanks for your answer.

I noticed that the maximum temperature of the cpu was set to be 70'C.
I think this is a mistake that make the system start to slow down before it should be.
The temperature to slow down for most laptops was set to be 105'C and they work well.
If acer can raise the temperature that was set to let W700 slow down a bit the problem may solve.
In fact the system can't make its best with a limit of 70'C.
This problem can be solve easily with a bios update.

I am sorry 60'C.
I just checked it.

For your information i have change ACER W700 i3-2365M to Toshiba U920T i5-3317U no trottling and the temperature in charge is 65-70° max! THANK ACER !!!

Yes, I did return my w700. I'm not trying to be a downer, I just want people to realize the upcoming BIOS update is not going to fix any of these issues because Acer does not consider them to be issues, so why would Acer fix something it thinks isn't broken. Therefore, you need to stay strong on the campaign of asking Acer to acknowledge there is a problem, not hoping they are already working on a solution.

My W700 i5 is showing the VBIOS as 0.00 in Intel Graphics Control Panel. So it looks like the W700 has no Intel VBIOS installed? This can only be update via a manufactures BIOS update, so maybe this is the problem.
