It is possible that the throttling contributes to the longer battery life, but one of the major reason why the W700 can run for so long is also its larger battery. (and maybe some magic elf inside the tablet...)

Probably both. The surface and samsung both clamp back down to 12W (or 14W).
Acer were supposed to be releasing a bios update this week

Actually they were supposed to release the new BIOs last week but.... ACER....
And about the magical elf, there is no such animal inside mine! I checked! ![]()

any news on this?
should we give up already?
what about the BIOS update???

From what I've found out from Intel data sheets the i3 is running as designed but the i5 is dropping in Low power mode. I think Acer could easily remedy this by following the changes Microsoft and Samsung have made. The question is will they. Maybe this is why the BIOS is taking so long?
The main throttling on the i3 is the GPU which throttles everything back when under strain regardless of temp. This was the problem that Microsoft fixed and I think is something that should be in the next BIOS update for all models.
Question is does Acer want to improve the device or do they just want to move forward to the next device.

The GPU throttling seems to be either time or temperature related or both. The pattern seems clear when you're stress testing the GPU only, but becomes less clear when you're stress testing both the CPU and GPU.
While I personally bought this tablet mainly for office works and it's doing great for its intended use, but I don't like having a locked down device. I decided to give Acer a chance despite the brand's past reputation since the W700 looks like a solid device and this issue definitely doesn't help in convincing me to choose an Acer device in the future.

HI guys
Does anybody have the new version of this tablet? I bought the 3337u version a couple of weeks ago in Japan. Wondering if that throuttling issue applies to me. Actually, judging from youtube videos, it seems to underperform a little, but I wonder if there is a definite way to check it?
Also, pardon my ignorence, but does the dynamic frequency being set to 1.1ghz mean we can actually get the full performance out of the gpu inside? I read that it comes underclocked to 350Mhz for its base frequency, so this thing is really confusing...
Thanks in advance.

It has been proven that the 3337u version have the same problem! And there is NO way at the moment to force the GPU to run at 1.1GHz! It throttles down after some seconds! ![]()
Any news on the matter? The new BIOS is nowhere in sight yet.... as usual....

wheres the new bios acer!!
has anyone tried the latest intel graphics drivers? version 15.31.3.64.3071 22/3/2013 or does Acer have to release the driver?

You guys are deluding yourselves if you think the new BIOS is going to do anything. Acer has already declared that this is not an issue, they are not working on a fix for it because it is working as intended and it is not a problem to them. They even marked the thread as solved! Don't hold your breath for a BIOS update.
