Re: W700 i5 throttle issue

I am speculating that the new released BIOS update is for the newer W700 that has 3337U (1.8ghz/2.7ghz) inside.

Re: W700 i5 throttle issue

[ Editado ]

It's listed on some of the Canadian models (like this one), it's been listed for at least a week. The general description says 3317U, but if you look at the detail it shows 3337U 1.8ghz.  Also someone from the UK has just received a S7 i5 version with the updated processor (previously listed with 3317U). This makes me believe that sooner than later Acer will start shipping the W700 with 3337U and with eventually with the Keyboard case as well.

BTW, I think another reason why our HD4000 doesn't perform as well as some of other brands i5 3317U is because we have DDR3 1333 memory instead of some of the other brands that uses DDR3 1600. I know the desktop version the RAM speed is a factor for the iGPU since that is what it runs off of.

Nah, 1333 doesn't make a real difference over 1600. It's only when you start comparing 1066 to 1866 and up do you see real gains.

There is almost no difference: (AMD APU)

And Sopa, there isn't any need to be upset about the CPU upgrade. The difference is next to nothing, and in 6 months time, our vy Bridge chips will be obsolete anyway. Such is life.

Re: W700 i5 throttle issue

I'm personally not to concerned about the CPU, the 100mhz difference won't be much of a big deal. I got this tablet knowing that this is not meant be be something as powerful as the full size laptops. I don't think it was meant for gaming either even though it could handle some light and casual games.

For the most part, this tablet processor seems to me to be performing pertty much the way it should and I really don't have any problem with it. Obviously besides the fact that I've had this tablet for less than a week and slight upgrade to the accessories and CPU has me a bit ticked, but overall I'm quite happy.

What's the upgrade besides the CPU? While that case looks very nice, I recall seeing a poster being very disappointed with it. They said it made pulling out the tablet for brief use combuersome, and that it exposed the keyboard to damages it otherwise wouldn't incur.

Persionally, I have always disliked keyboard cases, though I understand the appeal. They just aren't flexible. Just another reason I declined the Surfac Pro.

What would really have me miffed is if they released a version with a Thunderbolt port.

Re: W700 i5 throttle issue

So you mean that they are releasing a new one with another i5 processor that most prapably wont throttle and we are left with the throttle...So is this Acer solution, leaving us behind?:smileysad:

Re: W700 i5 throttle issue

[ Editado ]

On the spanish and portuguese website acer has erased the processor number now it just says i3 or i5 in both of them oO but in the details it still shows the "old processor".

All the europeans websites still show the 1.7 i5 though, so i dont know if its a typo or not.

Edit - also 1sttimeacer i only see those 2 1.8 on ca website and on the P models, that seems kinda weird, one would expect any changes to go through the us site 1st or am i wrong?

Re: W700 i5 throttle issue

I have the latest Canadian model - 3 days old - with the keyboard cover and it still has the i5 1.7ghz 3317u in it. Do NOT trust the Canadian Acer site. Before I ordered it didnt even mention the keyboard cover and the dock varied per region - whatever that means. At least I got more than the site indicated but learned to ignore it as Acer dont pay much attention in correcting it or keeping it updated. Of course this doesn't mean they wont update processors as vendors always do - just dont use the Canadian site as factual.
