How can I tell if my wifi (antenna) is working on my acer laptop?

Model number would help us ro provide better solution.

Usually there would be blue light indicator on the wireless LED.

The model is a Travelmate  2480-2705. There is an orange light on the front of the computer that comes on for a while when booting up. I get the message that "no wireless networks were found in range".
