Windows 8 have made some changes to the way a laptop wakes up and power management. This is done to reduce the power consumption and boot time. This can be seen when compared to windows 7, however the side effect of making such changes is that drivers will have to be re written to fit the protocol of Windows 8.

If you are having problem with wifi in windows 8, most probaly is that the driver was not written properly for Windows 8. I don't think we can blame Microsoft for making advances in technology, but it should always be the manufacturer's responsibility to provide hardware driver support.

In this case Qualcomm has produce a generic driver for its product and it as Acer used its component, it will have to port the driver to the platform they are building, in this case the Acer S7.

In the end of the day, it is still up to Acer to make the driver functional.

I do not hava any problem with the wifi as you stated dracore.

I have also known someone from this forum that returned the S7 for the X1 carbon and is very happy now with his laptop. I think this is a problem with the Aspire S7 not windows 8.

Hi there,

The screen dimming is the power saaving mode doing its work to lower the screen brightness. You can choose the balanced power plan to make the screen to not dim. You can also adjust this in the Intel Graphics and Media control Panel.

After analysing the time for the wireless adaptor to have problem, I discovered that after being awake for exactly 1 hour 45 minutes, either the wifi or the bluetooth will get disconnected. This is using the version 10.0.0.217 .

This shows that there is a timeout being set in the driver to power save after 1 hour 30 minutes. Please fix this bug if anyone from Acer read this.

I cannot rollback on the driver as I reinstalled the new version. Is there any way to get the older version of the driver?
