Well what do you know! I tightened those two screws and no shutdowns. In easel mode, movie, tablet mode, moving it around!

This is good!!

Thanks for the tip. Now am a much happier camper!

I too am having the random power shutoffs. And yes, it's after I've moved it and happens whether or not I have it plugged in or not. It seems odd, considering that you are supposed to be able to use this as a tablet. You unplug it, move the screen to tablet and then zap - done - instant and complete shut down.

I've also had it, after a move where it still works, shut down by itself while plugged in. Really, REALLY annoying since it gives me little comfort or assurance that the machine will continue to work.

I love this laptop - don't get me wrong. Even after buying an external DVD drive, an external WIFI adapter (yup - the wifi that comes with the laptop doesn't work well on mine either), and an external dongle for ethernet (I see they've finally come out with the adapter that does VGA and Ethernet - too late! Sigh), I still like the machine.

BUT this power off has happened often enough that Win 8 decided the only way to get Windows working again was to reset the laptop back to FACTORY!! Goodbye Windows 8.1 update. Goodbye software I had installed (the FUN of reinstalling Office - oh yay!).

Anyone else have this problem besides the people above me. Mine's outside the BestBuy warranty but any other thoughts? Since it's like a new machine again, I guess Acer is the next stop - GRRRR!!

Re: Who knows where to buy Acer Aspire R7 port converter?

I too would like to know when/where this accessory is available. Having the ability to add a second monitor (without having to use a USB monitor adapter) plus plug directly into Ethernet is a definite plus and is what this converter (according to the documentation in the box with the R7) is supposed to support.

Does Acer have any idea when this product will be released?

Thanks!
